The Pretoria League begins in earnest this term with the defending champions in all divisions facing stiff competition to keep their titles. Some of the schools have been playing basketball since the beginning of the year, taking part in preseason friendly games and tournaments all over the country so expect them to come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders.

GIRLS

In the Girls open, it comes down to another battle down the stretch between The Glen High school and Pretoria High School for Girls, with the rest playing catch up. These 2 great rivals have already met in the AISJ tournament and if it’s any indication of who will win the league, then your guess is as good as mine. The Glen High School opens their title defense against Hillview while in the other pool, Pretoria High School for Girls play against Prestige.

In the Under16 Girls division, Pretoria Girls High School is facing an uphill battle to keep the crown they have had for the past few years. The PHSG class of 2008 has a lot to live up to and they are going to be pushed all the way by last year’s finalists DSG who have their own ambitions to be champions. Watch out for The Glen High school team that won the under14 section last year, they have a year of basketball in their favour.

At under14 section, this is the rookie bunch, new to the game and difficult to predict. Last year, The Glen High School won it with an entertaining game against DSG who were playing at home. But with a new year, the work begins from scratch as the coaches assess the potential on their hands. Look out for the usual suspects, PHSG, DSG and The Glen.

In 2007 after getting frustrated at the lack of information about the game he loved in South Africa, Victor decided to start Mybasketball and he hasn't looked back. For close to 15 years, Victor has experienced the game as a player, a coach, a spectator and now from a media perspective. The whole purpose of Mybasketball is to keep the fans informed about the game and anything related to it; whether it is here in SA, Africa or Overseas. Victor has made some great friends along the way and rekindled some amazing friendships through the game.. Some of those friends have joined him on this crusade to make basketball better for everyone, and he looks forward to a South Africa where basketball gets the credit it deserves and the focus is on youth development and improving the coaches.
