TUKS ladies do it again

By on April 18, 2008 in League
Entertaining, aggressive and beautiful; just a few words that describe the performance of the TUKS ladies team in this qualifier against TUT ladies. Playing at home in front of some loyal fans, TUKS never looked like they were going to lose this one. They outran, outrebounded, outscored and totally outplayed their opponents in this uneven contest. With their aggressive defence, TUKS limited their opponents to a paltry 11 points total and they just ran, ran and ran.

It looked as if TUT were running backwards all the time because they couldn’t get their passing game going on offence and turned the ball over and over again. Their defence was too leaky for the lightning fast TUKS offence that scored at will. Thato Modibela had an outstanding game by putting pressure on the TUT guards, breaking a few ankles with some crossovers and running the fast break. If you mention fast break and TUKS, you have to mention Takalani Mfamadi because she never stops running and scoring. This year, she has also added the shot to her offensive threats which will please some of her previous coaches and worry the opposition. Nthabiseng Mushi, our roving reporter who had her birthday came late but had a great impact on the game by making some great passes and shooting the ball well. But this was not a one or two person performance; the whole team had a great game both on defence and offence.

Determined to send out a strong message to their opponents, the TUKS girls played a professional game full of energy and passion. There was diving, blocking and some good rebounding on both end of the floor and TUT looked out of their depth. TUKS dominance allowed their coach, Nicky de Villiers, to give the bench some much needed game time in preparation for the next games and they didn’t disappoint. The TUKS ladies ended victorious 81-11 and the defeat left TUT searching for answers before they face another tough opponent UJ.

Up next TUKS face WITS while TUT plays UJ on Sunday 20th April at TNG.

TUT: Tshwane University of Technology, UJ: University of Johannesburg, TUKS: University of Pretoria.
