ESPN and CHANNEL O host annual basketball extravaganza

Saturday, May 17th, promises to be one of the most exciting days on South Africa’s basketball calendar. ESPN, in conjunction with Channel O & YFM, will once again host the popular Annual Celebrity Basketball Extravaganza at the Sandton Parking lot, next to the Nelson Mandela Square; this is the fifth year running. The event sees pairing of some of South Africa’s popular celebrities with professional basketball players. Expected to participate in this year’s event include actor Clint Brink, Hip Hop StarsSlikour of Skwatta Kamp and Les from Jozi, Channel O VJ and Rhythm City actor, Lungile Radu, Street Journal presenter, Siya and stand up comic, Loyiso Gola just to name a few.An exhibition game of South Africa’s top pro basketball players, instructional clinic and games is scheduled to bring excitement to the fun filled family experience.

Channel resident Waxxy, C Live, Zan D will keep the audience entertained with the latest Hip Hop & Kwaito music while contestants from Channel O’s successful dance program, Dance Africa 2, will be on hand to entertain the crowds with their dance moves.

This year’s highlight is the friendly yet fierce basketball game between Channel O & YFM celebrities. “ESPN as the worldwide leader in sports broadcasting is once again proud to present this event which has grown in leaps and bounds to become one of the most looked forward to on the sporting and social calendar. This also gives us the opportunity to encourage people to watch the NBA Finals which will take place in early June while also nurturing local basketball talent says Georginah Machiridza, ESPN Brand Manager. Contests and interactive competitions for the general public will provide opportunities to win an assortment of great and exclusive prizes from ESPN, DStv, Channel O and YFM.

Channel O will host an exclusive after party at a trendy Joburg’s hotspot, Vinny Da Vinci, Mo Flava (YFM), Milkshake(5FM) will keep the crowd moving and guarantee Jozi’s hottest party this winter.
