  1. Baller says:

this is a good initiative taken by GBA and SASSU. looking at the fixture, what are the issues with UJ cos i see its not included in the program.

  2. Joe says:

UJ excused themselves because of the exams.

  3. Neo says:

Just like they excused themselves from the Metro final vs VUT. Call me old Mcdonald but these chickens are clucking too loud..

  4. Baller says:

i guess its their choice..they just missing a good opportunity to fine tune their team before the SASSU’s..Joe, when is the 2nd round of GBL starting.

By the way Neo, good work on the school league organisation. keep it up. we know its not easy moving from a player into an administrator.

  5. katlego malatji says:

The Matrix is stirring, lol. Anyway, any entertainment lined up for the crowds besides b-ball?

  6. Joe says:

Katlego, as you can see the programme is very full, hence the lack of extras, however music will be provided.

Hopefully house and kwaito will dominate!

PS The last bit is my opinion

  7. Neo says:

Its sad because the coach of UJ is coach of the SASSU national team and UJ is denying these players an opportunity to get exposed to the masses. I have had situations in past where players wait for the trial date or the tournament date to be set before they show off what they can do. Lord knows wehats gonna happen in Cape town, SASSU, your star player can have a bad tournament and because of your previous actions he is denied the opportunity to represent his country.

Exam or no exam, I know for a fact that the Boys and girls at UJ wanna play but the administration is not allowing them, they keep thinkin “what if”. Besides the guys from the Vaal need sum1 to do the three man weave with!!!

Thats my story and Im stickin to it.

  8. Neo says:

    Two more Weeks……….

  9. Nthabiseng says:

    Yeah… Is Vaal ready

  10. Neo says:

they ready to dominate, like they been doing for the past I don no how many years. The question is ” is SOUTH AFRICA ready………..

  11. Kw3ku says:

    Neo,
And what is Vaal dominating exactly? Maybe in your times as student yes and ballers before you ie. Cabral,Pule and the likes.
Now? dont flukk pakk around Vaal? Dominating? Ao eme ganyane sista!!

PS. Not taking anything away from VUT ballers they can hold their own.

    Kweku

  12. Baller says:

can someone from UJ be contacted to find out the exact reasons why they not playing this weekend. in most probabilities, most players are done writing their exams. i mean what can a one day tournament do to you. people go to world student games and come bask write their exams and pass.

has UJ played a game in GBL. except their second team.

  13. Neo says:

You cant talk about this season cos well you know what is happening this season. You talk about in my Era as if I have been retired from Vaal Basketball for the past decade, I only graduated last year.

When I say domination I mean domination. Do your history, for the past 4 years, thats including 2007. No other tetiary institution can match what VUT has done.

  14. Kw3ku says:

True, Ill give you that much(the past 4 years). The here and now is totally different jazz, I distinctly recall you asking is SA is ready for VUT am I correct in saying this?
Now you tell me what is it that they have to offer that we havent seen yet? Having seen how they play NOW except for Mavusana(#6) ofcourse.

A true patriot il give you that, Il say this though opinions are exactly that opinions!

  15. Baller says:

if i may, am asking myself if there is a team at SASSU level this year that can beat Vaal (men) with the veterans on that team. surely Tuks and UJ are out and not sure about other teams from other provinces.

surely experience counts for something. well, maybe thabo letsebe will help UJ who knows. i mean poor Lucky has been trying to pick them up but still they can’t get through Vaal.

i hope you not playing the SASSU’s this year Neo.

  16. Neo says:

Thats what makes the next guy bring his “A” game, my opinion of his game. So I guesse you are a fan, cos clearly you know who the best players are in the Vaal.

The other players are not shinning as mush as Mavassanah aka “yabayazi” cos they handling other things. Its easy to overlook a player only because he is not scoring. Next time you watch, the best institution in SA basketball, try and break it down.

On second thoughts I can give profiles of each player and tell you their strong and weak points, only then can you see how effective everyone is, doing what they supposed to do…

Its too bad you hiding behind a nickname, KW3KU.

  17. Neo says:

I gonna tell you what I told everyone who has ever come within 3 feet from me, As long as my legs and SASSU allows me to play I will play. Teams need to take care of their business before worrying about other people’s business.

People are always hoping that someone quits before they challenge them. How about you showcase your skills and against thyem that they can quit knowing that Basketball will left in capable hands.

  18. Baller says:

you have a point there Neo but then on the other end we need to focus on the bigger picture. come to think of it, maybe SASSU should operate more like the NCAA where a player is eligible to play for 4 years at college level.

now i heard that FISU has decided to cut the participating age to 25 or so. shouldn’t SASSU be working towards that. trying to unearth new talent. for me SASSU is a development wagon for the men’s senior team and our national under 21 teams.

surely at national team level, people can play for as long as their legs can take them but SASSU should be different. that is my opinion Neo. think about it, Vaal wins the SASSU’s and 90% of the starting five don’t even qualify to play for SASSU at National level.

the coach will be forced to select bench warmers for the SASSU nationl team. then, my quetsion will is, are we developing and what kind of results do we expect with bench warmers??

  19. Kw3ku says:

Like I said Im not taking anything from anybody, Let the national players shine dude for VUT I say. Nobody mentioned anything about scoring heck he(yabayazi) aint even in the first 5.. which in turn proves the next point his defensive presence.

Too much heat in Pta, lets see how that story unfolds.

  20. Neo says:

I hear you on that bpart and I think Fasu is trying to remedy the situation. If these young boys and girls cannot play against the best in the country how do you think they will do when they play against the best in Africa. In SA at the momenty we dont have a big pool of players who can say that they deserve to be in the SASSU national team.

If it means that those so called veterans are the only challenge these players have let these young players prove themselves against quality opposition. Which one do you prefer 1. To be a big fish a small pond or to be a small fish in a big pond and gradually work your way up, thats how I learned to play at a competitive level. If we eliminate the experienced players in SA these players will go to international tours will a false sense ignorance and Ive seen it at U18 and U20 level.

Enough about that. who do you think is going to take second place at the SASSU’s…LOL.

  21. Baller says:

but then Neo on the other hand, how many teams have players above 25..they are a lot..even UJ has a lot..on the other hand, look at the Vaal bench? surely those players are capable of playing and they only need more game time to improve..

yes,we can allow them to play with you but if they are going to warm the bench and play for 5 minutes, what good is that doing to us..or maybe we shud have a quota system at the SASSUs..a team can only play 2 players above 24 at any given time..

you are right in saying we don’t have a pool of players..the question will be, if 80% of the current men’s national team can quit today we would be lost in no man’s land..then we should be using tournaments like the Zone 6, Fasu to develop a new crop of players..let them learn the hard way by losing to teams like zim, malawi then they’ll develop..

Well, with the men i think UJ will be second as usual and ladies i peep UJ to win then Vaal second.

  22. Neo says:

You must have confidence in your own my friend. Obviously when you mean veterans you refering to Vaal players. Iv been keepin my mouth shut for too long, have you seen how many over 25 yrs players are playing at the Vaal, let me put your mind at ease, there is only two, yes two. The rest are all under 24. Im not the kind to dwell on other peole’s business.

I belive that the up and coming players have to learn from the people who have been there and done the dirty work,on the court that is. Just like any older brother would lead the young one into battleeby fine tuning his skills.

PS. NO IM NOT PLAYING IN THE SASSU’S “THIS YEAR”

  23. Nthabiseng says:

OK FELLERZ… WHAT ABOUT THE LADIES TEAMS. Neo kepps vaal be dominating yeah maybe the guys are. But whats up with the girls team? Maties is gona give teams a good run for the championship title.

  24. Baller says:

Neo, i didn’t only refer to Vaal. there are a lot of institutions with players over 24 or so.

eish, Nthabiseng we just hope that your UJ doesn’t do what they did last year against Vaal in the semis. slam dunk had to remind us on sunday. on a serious note though, i believe they are going to win the SASSU Championship.

you have a very good team and hopefully they will raise to the occasion. but be careful?

  25. Neo says:

Oh poor Nthabiseng. I like the fact that you mentioned that Baller cos eish last year the better team won the ladies section. The ladies section I don no much about ito their perfomances. UJ has a good program going, for the ladies, but they always seem to stuymble at the lst hurdle. As all athletes know that the last hurdle is not that its higher but because you running your mouth so much during the race that you don have enough energy to get over that hurdle.

There are rumours that this might be the last championships for institutions, so if it is true players will have to play harder to get their names on the trophy. Just imagine if it stops and the only institution to ever the trophy is Vaal, that will be locked away in SASSU shelves FOREVER. I hope it continues tho.

As for the Tuks women team well, lets hope your student team can perform.
