23rd Annual SAMBA tournament

This year the South African Masters Basketball Association (SAMBA) tournament will start midday Wednesday 24^th September and will finish on Saturday 27^th 2008.

Teams:

From the discussions that we have had with some team organizers, we are expecting a number of new teams this year, particularly from Angola, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Kenya. Let’s hope that they make it. Based on this, we are expecting entries in the categories as given in the table below:

This means that we will be catering for 72 games. As a result, and due to venue availability we will have games over 4 days. Games will start around midday on the Wednesday to accommodate traveling teams that want to fly/drive in on the Wednesday.

Venues:

Our main court will be the Club for Disabled Sportsmen in Pretoria West. It is next to the Show Grounds. The second court will be set up at the Korfbal Park in Pretoria North.

Registration:

Please note that we are required to register all players and traveling companions with SAMSA (South African Masters Sports Association). We have modified SAMSA’s Registration forms, and ask that you complete both the individual and the team forms. SAMSA requires each participant to sign the form which contains the indemnity clause.

A minimum of R3500 per team. (This pays for a maximum of 7 participants (players / officials). For each participant/official above the seven, they will pay R500 per person. The exception being a player who is playing for a second team, who will pay R350. Each companion will pay R250. (The charges above include the payment to SAMSA)

The final date for TEAM registrations, i.e. the payment of fees AND receipt of registration forms, will be 15^th August. No late registrations will be entertained as this is a SAMSA deadline. The final date for player / official / companion registrations will be 17^th September. Any registrations after this date can not be guaranteed proper registration with SAMSA. Fixtures will be produced on 17^th September.
