The Gauteng Schools Basketball Conference (GSBC) was launched in 2001 to provide the best opportunity for the greatest number of students of both sexes in Primary and High School’s to play basketball around the Johannesburg area, filling the void of inexistent Basketball leagues at those levels and also to provide a competitive environment to recognize those schools that excel.

It was senior City Championship time last week. This is a knockout Tournament for the top 16 school teams in the League. Tuesday 5 August, Wednesday 6 August and Thursday 7th August were the Top 16 play-offs at The Hill High School in the South of Johannesburg. The Top 8 teams took part in the last round of games at Wits University on Sat 9 August 2008.

With returning five year Champions on the boys side, Dominican Convent came back to defend their title, crushing all opposition on their way to the championship. On the ladies side a depleted Germiston team tried in vain to regain their title but were eliminated in the first round thus relinquishing their title to Holy Family.

Darren spent many years playing basketball in Pretoria, searching out every possible way to gain extra inches on his vertical in order to disprove the theory that white men can't jump. After being distracted by the corporate world for several years, Darren returned to the game he loves to contribute in some way to its' future. Darren firmly believes we will see basketball in its rightful place as one of the top sports in South Africa, and that one of the keys to doing so is seeing information about the game made easily accessible to everyone. This is why he is now part of the MyBasketball team.
