KBL 23/08/2008 – Soldiering home to a victory
Khayalami marched on another victory in the KBL by demolishing Tswelopele Hostel with 27 points. This is the second biggest margin by Khayalami is as many weeks. The flagship of University of the Free State basketball must be commended for their gradual improvement. This has come through tremendous efforts of the team manager, Ntlantla Mloyeni to lure talented players to his team. Moreover these players are residing at the hostel. Commenting on their performance, Mloyeni said no one has seen their best yet. This statement must be taken seriously since the team never had time to go practice despite the basketball courts being a stone’s throw from their house. It was Masotja “Soldier” Nkosi who opened the score for Khayalami. This forward is also gaining momentum on his game which has improved. His positioning became the order of the day as he managed to score 16 points to help Khayalami win the game 41-14.
Despite the absence of Mollah Sefotlhelo, Dynasty continued with their unbeaten run by beating Raptors 55-34. The plays that the Dynasty team uses makes them a marvel to watch. They combine their winning ways with the beautiful exhibition of the sport of basketball. It is interesting to note that the quality of their performance is also based on the development plan the team from Thaba Nchu strictly adheres to. They continuously allow young players to practice with them. These youngsters develop an intellect of the sport earlier in their youth in preparation of the future. For them it is not the passion of the game that spurs them. It is the pedigree of the game of basketball.

at last some thing is changing in the free state we have a league heep heep,i very much support wat is happening in free state bcoz i belong here but the problem with the league is that some times its on and some times oof and that pisses a lot of us players as we are forced 2 stay nd dnt play when seniors cum we can not perform coz of not practicing and not playing matches,wat CUT is doing by touring nd balling 2 jozi is gud at least will have a gud team for seniors.BIG UPS TO CUT REPRESENT FS sho
The teams have been competing every weekend since the beginning. What we need is advertising and proper fixture management. Some people have been delegated this authority and we have to give them the appropiate support.
We will also have to launch the Mangaung Basketball Association soon. We need uniformity in our sport as well as representation at the Mangaung Sports Council. At this moment we need to develop politicians of the sport in our region, people who will have a mandate from the constituencies on certain issues.

I think fixture management is very important in this regard and should it happen that the organisers get it right then this league will blow to higher proportions.I think its the idea of having something that is the key and then trying to fix things whilst having something.If we continue to plan and no action bloem bball and Free State ball wont go anywhere.
Its critical though that we get the basics right and I feel the KBL is heading in the right direction and I am sure the organisers will get things to work.Its important that the teams play their part and not just want administrators to be the only contributors.Free State has good players and I dont see any reason why we cant compete against ANY province,yes including GP.It starts with all teams training hard,sharing ideas and creating a high level of competition amongst ourselves and success is around the corner,short left.
Been very impressed with the standard of play of Panthers. I think Kim and his boys deserve all the praise for their performances.
