Raptors March on

One could just tell by the warm-up that another blowout was scheduled. Monash ladies against Raptors, was not the most interesting games at Wits last Sunday. The likes of Gabsile and Tuki from the Raptors team were having a goodtime on court, shooting 3 pointer after 3 pointer leaving the Monash coach speechless throughout the game. The game ended at 105-36 to Raptors. These girls are yet to be tested as they are dominating in both LOP and GBL leagues. They’ve beaten Emma Ledwaba and the Wits team as well as the USSA 2008 champions Tuks, who’s going to stop these ladies? We will soon find out.

On the other side of the hall, the Monash men’s team was working hard as they mauled the Ball addicts 86-49, with the combination of Zimbabwean Shonna and Tom down at the low posts, the guards did not have much to do offensively but dish the ball down to the two big men. “Basketball in Zim is dead, so I had to come showcase my talent in South Africa” said Shonna. Shonna (6-3) has only been in the country for about 2 weeks and is already making headlines. Final score 105 – 36 to Raptors.

Scorpions Sting Putos Phly

After UJ’s victory over Tuks earlier that Sunday morning, there was still room for one more game for some of the UJ players, but with Sfiso “money” Twala on a crutch and Lucky Leate out for 6 weeks, it was up to Raymond and the rest of the Putos team to take one for the team.

The reefing was a bit suspect but that’s a topic for another day. The first period was very exciting as Putos was too quick for the Scorpions, but they quickly increased the intensity of the game, trading baskets, ending the first period at 25-29 to Putos.

Kwame from Scorpion had an awesome game (The only good game I’ve seen him play in a while) contributing both on offense and defense, but Putos was not going to let that Phly. Raymond contributed a lot for the his team giving his opponents a hard time on offense. Unfortunately his hard effort came up short. Final score 63-58 to Scorpions.

Credits go to Dinash for bringing some of Wits Alumni’s winning spirit to the Scorpion team.
