On the Men’s side, Australia won the gold medal, defeating Canada with a final score of 72-60. The win was significant for Australia considering that Canada led for much of the match. Australia had a balanced attack, with three players scoring 16 or more points and all but one of their players in the points. (Scoresheet)
Great Britain won the bronze over the USA, defeating them by a margin of 85-77 behind a fantastic 32 points by Terence Bywater. (Scoresheet)
After qualifying twelfth out of twelve teams, the South African Mens Wheelchair Basketball team finished up tenth. South Africa was defeated by Brazil in the 9th/10th place match as Brazil proved to be the better team on the day, winning 68-46. Women
In the Women’s basketball, the USA beat Germany convincingly for the gold medal (50-38), having been behind after the first quarter. Like the Australian men’s performance, the attack was also quite balanced. (Scoresheet)
In the bronze medal match, Australia’s women showed their mettle by defeating Japan 53-47, with three players in double figures. Australia dominated the paint to take the last remaining medal. (Scoresheet)

I quite enjoyed watching them play…could we get more coverage or more publicity when they have home games???
I watched USA vs Canada, it was an amazing game!!! There was a buzzer beater 3 pointer from the Canadians to take the game into overtime and then there was another period of overtime before Canada sealed the win. WOW. ciao,V
Vic we can learn eish from the wheel chair basketball because they are well organise in terms with the basketball and i i mean all the disablies sports are taken serious in the country thats why everyone what to be part of them.
Is not that you don’t have talent is just Sports in South Africa is a joke, unless when you play the Big 3 (Soccer, Cricket and Rugby) than you sorted out.
There is nothing wong with South African Basketball just we need help from the government to come throught
Big up to the wheel chair team.I believe sometimes its not about how many games you win or lose but the ability to compete and this team was able to do that.
