NBA puts an army general in charge of referees

Time reported today that the NBA has hired an army general to oversee it’s referees after all the challenges they have been facing.

As the NBA tips off its 2008-’09 regular season this week, Johnson will inherit a demoralized group of referees who have taken a public beating in the fallout from the Tim Donaghy scandal.

Well done to the NBA for thinking outside the box and attempting to address this problem head-on. It will be very interesting to see how it turns out, and whether this infusion of disciplined leadership will make a difference at all.
