RBL: King Edward School vs. St Benedict – 29/10/2008

By on November 9, 2008 in High School

Junior teams…

This was the arguably the biggest match in the under15 age group as these are the two dominating sides in the RBL league. They have been dominating since under14 days where St Benedicts came out victorious during their 2 matches in the 1st term in 2007, winning 13-15 and 14-17 respectively. But in the fourth term last year, St Benedicts lost to the KES unders15s for the first time with a score of 23-16…At the start of 2008; KES played St Benedicts again in the RBL league, with KES coming out on top with a score of 27-16. So this latest encounter was to see if St Benedicts could overturn their bad run.

The game started off fast paced and very competitive from both teams with good moves from the st benedicts down low (St Benedicts 11). They dominated the rebounds but on many occasions failed to convert their scoring chances. KES started slow but with some good teamwork and communication they found themselves leading 6-2 after ten minutes; St Benedicts called a time out and when they came back onto the court they played a 3 man half court press. KES fell to the pressure and this lead to turnovers. At the end of the first half the score read 10-9 to St Benedicts.

In the second half, KES came back a rejuvenated side and took the lead early in the half but after 5 minutes of the first half the score read 16-11 to St Benedicts due to turnovers from the KES team. KES called a time out and the coach did not look to pleased with his team. With KES seemingly unable to break the press, St Benedicts continued putting pressure at the top but the KES guards were gaining in confidence with every possession. Their point guard (KES 58) showed some amazing handles to elude the defense and with that the team started to relax and took control of the game with everyone from the front to the back court contributing. St Benedicts called a time out and then came back looking like they were up for it and that they were going to wrestle the control back. But KES played more like a unit and ended up winning the game comfortably with the score 23 – 16.

KES U15 team is still undefeated in the RBL 2008 season and with a game to go against their big rivals St Johns they look on course for a great season.
