A very successful championship indeed Mr Nyewe.I just have a number of concerns that I hope wont punish players. The first one that provinces having to confirm player availability.Hopefully all provinces have been communicated to as wouldnt like to see a situation where players dont attend a camp due to administration blunders of provinces.

I love the addition of youngsters such as Angola and Christian.I think this will improve their talent and future prospects to look out for. They are both warriors.I could swear I saw Sfiso’s name on that list as the 23 player. How ironic.#23.MJ,Lebron.SA should not shoot itself in the foot when it has talent such as SFISO.As I have said before A+ player. Please reconsider.

The additional of Nomsi in the ladies team is wonderful because it gives the team an additional post that they will definately need for competition amongst these players.I hope this team learns from its mistake of 2007,DONT SEND 4 POINT GUARDS TO ZIMBABWE.It would have been nice to have had Lesego in the team as a shhoting guard as I think this is one position we lack in.Otherwise a good team to work with.

Good luck to both teams.I hope the men can repeat on their wonderful results overthere.I talked to one of the former Zim coaches and reckons Zim will play even better this year.I hope the ladies can set a goal of improving their world ranking and it starts in Africa,Zone 6.I know they have the skill, all they need to do is JUST DO IT.

    SFISO,SFISO,SFISO,SFISO,SFISO,SFISO,SFISO………………………………..

congrats to everyone. Makghotso, Angola you guys are the one’s AYOBANES

  3. Molupe says:

Victor & Basketball SA, thanks for posting the squads. We truly appreciated being kept updated. Don’t stop!

Nosipho, Lungile, Makgotso, Ellen, Amogelang and Thabo well done and this caps an excellent 2008. However, you know that at your club the standards are always raised upwards. If selected we expect you to give your all. Don’t rest on your laurels.

Precious, good to see your name on the list – SA netball and possibly SA basketball national teams. Impressive. But then again I know how mentally strong you are and that you are an exceptional athlete. If Takalani, Precious, Lungile and Makgotso push each other physically and mentally, I would pay to go watch those “battles”.

The young guns (Christian, Brendan, Nhlanhla, Ayanda, Vincent) you have the physical tools. If you can find the mental strength, alertness and endurance you should be OK.

To everyone else who has made the squads, well done. In 8 months time (August 2009), win or lose we want to applaud you for having represented SA well. Coaches, rejuvenate yourselves now because your next true break is only going to be in September 2009. Keep thinking, teaching, learning, discovering, talking and working hard and smart.

There are some who are unfortunate not to have made the lists -there are at least 4 names I would have liked to seen. Don’t despair. We remain proud of you. Let this be an inspiration for a great future – keep improving, even if it is just the mental aspects. South African basketball still needs you.

African Championships 2009, SA is on its way!

  6. Tifo says:

Hola Hola!!! SA, Now we playin ball, let this guys go out there and represent us. personally i think this is a great squad, haven seen most of these guys in action, I think all they gotta do is apply themselves to the best of their abilities and they shall be fine. Ofcourse down here at home we will and should continue putting pressure on our local leagues to anhance competition so that in the future it should take days and months to be able to select the perfect squad.

  7. Tifo says:

Wizzy!!! thas ma team mate rite there, u makin us proud boi. U makin us feel like super stars, knowin we have national team material in our midst, u know what you gotta do boi.

  8. kim says:

    Tifo
    which province are u from?

  9. The dream says:

    Hi Ballers

One of ma lady friends who is in the national squad has informed me that, they are still facin the old problem of incompetence.

When I called her to ask what time she is leaving for the camp she said she doesnt even know whether she will be able to attend. We keep losing all our young talent not because we not a sport of choice but because the players are treated with utter disrespect. Now the camp has been postponed C’mon, I though things would change but it seems like we have swoped one dirty mop for another filthy rug.

  10. kim says:

    The Dream
one dirty mopp for another filthy rug..hahahaha….Well I am not sure why the camp is being moved and thus do not know whose fault is it(If any).Unless maybe you are able to give the low down on why the camp itself has been cancelled.Or know someone who does cos we would all like to know.

My very first comment on this matter was…’Hopefully all provinces have been communicated to as wouldnt like to see a situation where players dont attend a camp due to administration blunders of provinces’….I hope this has been addressed.

I actually thought that they were delaying the camp so that they had time to inform SFISO that he was part of the team(wink).

  11. Thabo says:

The camp dates have not been communicated to the player, most players find out when the camps are via the this web site or some other player. Players nowadays dont even get called by the BSA admin. no more.

From what I am seeing thus far. This committe is not doing anything better then the last one. Its the same pack of wolves.

Heard we( the players) might not even get paid for these camps! For some of the players that have jobs, all of them say they are not going to the camp. Besides the cash, they can not get off work.

One thing I know, if most the more experienced guys like Q, Joseph, Lesego, Neo and Toka do not make it to the camp because of not being able to get off work and because it doesnt make sense leaving work to get paid R100 a day. Its going to be very hard for SA to qualify. Its either BSA get the act together or the SA team are not going to qualify!

Don’t get me wrong we want to qualify, but most of the players I talked to are tired of sacrificing their lives for ball, some of these players have been doing this for years, even 10 years. The time to do this for the LOVE OF THE GAME, ITS OVER.

  12. Wisani says:

    The dream & Kim

The main reason for the camp to be postponed is that they are trying to accomodate all players that are in the SA squad to make it to the camp, because most players in the squad like myself are working and they won’t be able to make it to the camp during the week as the proposed dates of the camp were during the week and for a whole week. Its not about swoping one dirty mop for another filthy rug or something like that, you guys should really stop saying stuff like that about the new commitee bcause that really not a good way of supporting them, they are trying to do good and you guys want to break them down before you even give them a chance. come on man!!

  13. The dream says:

Well ?I dont know the real reason why the camp was moved but I can tell you this much at this pace we heading right back into Vusi Mgobozi’s era. I dont care who is in the team all I care about is that the players go to the qualifiers well prepared regardless.

How do you post a note on the internet and ask the players to RSVP, dont you call to confirm that the players have gotten the info first before going public?

  14. kim says:

    Wisani
Read carefully what I said Wisani,I never said anyone was a rug or a mop.If you look at my comment,I am basically saying we cant say BasketballSA has done anything wrong until we are informed about the reasons why the camp moved. There are many reason why the cant would have been moved. One of them would have been availabilty of ALL players.Another might be availability of the view etc.

Please may you indicate where in my comment I am trying to break the new executive. If I remember correctly,I was the ONLY one in this forum who actually said well done to this executive for having a succeful Senior Tournament.

  15. The dream says:

We must stiop being apologetic and be proactive man. Tough luck if they are getting slack from me personally because this a crucial time for basketball especially the wualifiers. Do we baby them and say its a learning curb or do we push to a point where they actually ask for help from people who are willing to help. South Africa has come a long way in terms of the world, we did not get to where we are by sitting back and allowing things to happen.

    Wisani

I understand the working issue but is that the real reason or that the excuse that was fed to you by people. I believe that the BSA office is run like a spaza shop where when a problem arises only then do they try to find means to counter it. The two squads were picked last year already but the players are only informed a week before the camp, no wonder Wisani cant get time off work or student have registration at their universities.

We all adults and we become sympathetic to things that we see are going wrong then I guesse we as a sport deserve the no. 11 ranked sport in SA.

  16. kim says:

    The Dream
I still maintain that until we know the reasons for the postponment we are not in a position to criticize or applaud the executive.Do you know why the camp is being moved?

  17. Theo says:

    Th Dream

I agree with u man,If players are working or studying then we need plan B on this things,If we can have 12 players available then they must goto training camp. What if the players are available in different dates, then is going to give us huge problem.

Most companies won’t give players leave because of the commitment to basketball.

For eg,Fumani is doing his last year in medicine,it might be impossible to have him in the camp because of the commitment to his studies.

  18. The dream says:

I dont have a problem with working issues, all companies will grant you leave and universities will release just as long as you have given them enough time to assess the situation. If you tell my boss that I have to miss work three days before then you are wasting your time.

12 out of the 22 in the men’s squad are my friends and I know for a fact that they in limbo waiting for their bosses to decide and most of them have only been working for less than a year, what do you think they will choose if asked to between basketball and their jobs?

If you say you want to change things you must start at the bottom, dont polish the surface and leave the rot underneath.

  19. neo says:

I say until we get the truth of the matter we cannot speculate. In every half truth there is half a lie. The dream makes a strong point but we cant bury administration ffor the faults of the past.

Its too bad we dont have all the facts and BSA doesnt have a media liaison

  20. Theo says:

Setlogelo mentioned of players getting paid for what they do.I believe this the time when this players need to get paid to represent SA.

If they were getting paid,it would be easy for one to take unpaid leave to go and play bball,Comprising work for bball without getting paid it the hard choice to a make.If bball was putting food into the table it will different ball game altogether now

  21. The dream says:

    Neo

Please man dont gimme that diplomatic ish man. You know what goes on in those guys heads and even felt their wrath when they didnt wanna pay you guys for the Angola tour. Thats what Im talking about we willing to nurse people’s feeling at the expense of progress.

  22. kim says:

Are we talking about the new or the old?Are we then saying that the past errors must dent the new?To my understanding, this is the first camp under the new executive. We cant begin to say that people didnt want to pay you guys for the Angola tour when it wasnt this executive in-charge.Doesnt make sense to me.Who said that they wont get paid?Do we have any information? If we dont have information then can we comment on SWHASWHI?

I agree though that BasketballSA must inform people in time.I didnt think it was a good idea for players to avail themselves to BSA when they could have done this during the tournament. This would have resulted in people availing themselves. If they had taken players cell numbers then they would have interacted with players to findout who needed letters to be released from work. Not everyone comes on mybasketball to see this information whilst not everyone has internet or a computer.

Hope they get it right for the sake of the game.I hope the coaches are kept in the loop on the happenings as well or else we will have a tremendous disaster if this is not done. The last thing we want is to have players or coaches pulling out. This will definately have an impact on the moral going to Zim.With the current political situation in Zim,our teams will need to be motivated…….including you Neo(Zim again…ahhh noooo)!

  23. Wisani says:

    Neo
do you have an idea how much we are going to be paid for this camp, or there is no money at all?

  24. kim says:

    Wisani
A real business man!!Wanting to know your cash already!!!

  25. The dream says:

Im also in the dark my friend.
