SA seniors 2008 recap: Ladies Final

By on January 19, 2009 in News

The moment everybody has been waiting for, to see who takes the 2008 Seniors Tournament trophy. The spectators, predominately the participants, are ready and waiting.

1st quarter

Limpopo gets the jump ball and the game starts with a foul on R. Molema.

The game is moving at a very slow pace, it’s been 2minutes and still no baskets have been scored. The game is becoming very monotonous with the ball going to both ends of the courts and no baskets being scored. At last…T. Mfamadi breaks the ice and scores the first basket of the game receiving a foul in so doing. GP seems to have found their form while Limpopo is struggling to find their feet.

This is a game of fouls as the whistle seems to blow every few seconds. Both teams get intercepts yet battle to convert. GP decides to change things a bit and with 2minutes left they introduce L, Mtsweni. This proves to be a smart decision by the coach- L, Mtsweni scores two 3pointers successively.

She has earned the title of ‘super-sub.’

Score: GP-25 Limpopo- 102nd quarter

Things look even better for GP. Limpopo receiving a lot of turnovers.

GP is raising the bar and the Limpopo posts are getting frustrated as they work hard for the rebounds and Limpopo keeps throwing away a lot of hard earned balls. P, Mosehlanga can barely walk due to her ankle injury yet she’s still running those fast breaks.

Score: GP- 44 Limpopo- 22

3rd quarter

Limpopo is still dominating on rebounds; E. Ledwaba is still not being seen by her team mates.

Limpopo’s defense is shattered and they seem to have given up. The only person who seems to be fighting till the end is M, Mokoko. Within 2minutes R. Molema, their point guard, has five turnovers. This just looks bad for Limpopo and the score tells it all.

Score: GP- 75 Limpopo- 35

4th quarter

It’s the last quarter and GP is giving the bench a go. Limpopo is fighting but you can see that the have lost the game in their minds. Spectators have lost interest and some walk away and those present do not seem to care. This has to be the most disappointing final I’ve watched to date. There where no ‘WOW!’ moments or even any excitement. I listen as the spectator’s voice their disappointments in the game as well as the referees. Even the GP team does not seem too enthusiastic about their victory. The only positive things being said in the stands are about the beautiful basketball facilities Fort Hare University have.

Final score: GP- 81 Limpopo- 66
