SASSU Basketball Tournament 2009

January 27, 2009 in USSA

Please be informed that we are continuing with the same tournament format as last years one, the club championship. Please find each Provincial allocation of Sports. Each Province is expected to organize its qualifiers, a copy of the qualifying programme. Each Province can use one of the two methods:

  • Ø Round Robin or
  • Ø Tournament format

Please note that only member Institutions in Good Standing will be allowed to compete at all levels. The host Institution qualifies automatically. Please remember that TUKS is from Gauteng therefore Gauteng will have 4 Men and Women teams. The Champions and host get an automatic slot.

The tournament will be on week of the 05 – 10 April 2009 and the Venue for the National Tournament is in Tshwane, at the University of Pretoria, Gauteng. The tournament is in April due to the World Student Games taking place in July 2009. Therefore we would like to avoid disrupting team’s preparation for the tournaments.

Due to unavailability of institutions that can host the A and B sections as suggested at the BGM, we will not have such tournament this year. We will however consider it for 2010.

In 2007 after getting frustrated at the lack of information about the game he loved in South Africa, Victor decided to start Mybasketball and he hasn't looked back. For close to 15 years, Victor has experienced the game as a player, a coach, a spectator and now from a media perspective. The whole purpose of Mybasketball is to keep the fans informed about the game and anything related to it; whether it is here in SA, Africa or Overseas. Victor has made some great friends along the way and rekindled some amazing friendships through the game.. Some of those friends have joined him on this crusade to make basketball better for everyone, and he looks forward to a South Africa where basketball gets the credit it deserves and the focus is on youth development and improving the coaches.

  1. I see clearification on the point of why ther provinces will only have 2 team to qualify for the SASSU??????????

  2. Please rephrase your question?

  3. I can understand the fact that Gauteng is hosting thus more teams form the province but the rest of the other provinces should have at least 2 teams attending this tournament. Why is that only one men & women team qualifing from Limpopo,Free State & North West
