USSA GAUTENG 2009

January 26, 2009 in USSA

We’ve seen 2008 being a good year for South African Basketball and hope this year will even be a greater one.

USSA Gauteng Basketball would like to wish all the Institutions best of luck during their qualifiers in their respective provinces.

Gauteng qualifiers promise to be battle of fire as Gauteng and University of Pretoria being the host for the USSA National Institutional Championships 05 – 11 April 2009, in which Gauteng has four (4) spots.

The University of Pretoria’s teams and Vaal University of Technology men’s team qualify automatically as both are the host and the defending champs respectively.

In the men’s sections, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Johannesburg, Wits University and University Of Limpopo (Medunsa campus now falls under Gauteng) must battle it out two (2) spots. While in the women’s section, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Johannesburg, Vaal University of Technology, University of Limpopo and Wits University have three (3) spots to qualify for the USSA National Institutional Championships.

Herewith is the Pre- Calender for USSA Gauteng:

Information provided by Sibongile Maswanganye (USSA GP: Chairperson)

In 2007 after getting frustrated at the lack of information about the game he loved in South Africa, Victor decided to start Mybasketball and he hasn't looked back. For close to 15 years, Victor has experienced the game as a player, a coach, a spectator and now from a media perspective. The whole purpose of Mybasketball is to keep the fans informed about the game and anything related to it; whether it is here in SA, Africa or Overseas. Victor has made some great friends along the way and rekindled some amazing friendships through the game.. Some of those friends have joined him on this crusade to make basketball better for everyone, and he looks forward to a South Africa where basketball gets the credit it deserves and the focus is on youth development and improving the coaches.

  1. GP will continue to overshadow us because of good planning and competitiveness. With GBL and USSA happening this means provinces should begin to get their teams ready because we will be hearing…HOME OF CHAMPIONS…when we arrive at Tuks for the USSA’s.

The competition will be tough once more as VUT will most definately go on a shopping spree.Luyanda,Dragons player,Christian,Chief have been rumoured to be going to VUT.Thats going to be a squad and a half and will have to see what transpires there. The question on everybodys mind is will GP go 1,2,3,4 in both men and women……I hope NOT!As for UJ Galaxy ladies getting over the final hurdle…….will see.

If there still players looking for a home and not just a house……CUT is just around the corner.Phone, email or text me…you always welcome(hahaha).

  2. I think USSA should work more on promoting campus basketball in all spheres cause we only hear bout USSA when its championship time OR maybe i’m out of the radar. Because even though northern cape is not represented at the USSA champs does not mean they cant be be represented at the campus (….taking note at the composition of most campus teams).

I think that our teams (especially our campus teams) should start focussing more on pre-season training, inter-campus games/tournament, USSA champs need to be transformed to USSA play-offs after a campus league. The only way GP will be given a run for their baskets is when other campuses get to face them more often throughout the year. …. u cant face a teams of that caliber 2 or 3 times a year and think we can close the gap. (same applies for Snr Champs).
