RBL: Pretoria Boys High School vs. St Stithians – 7/02/2009
Pretoria Boys’ High School gave one of their best performances of the season when they recorded their second straight victory of the year in the Rainbow Basketball League when they beat the visiting St Stithian’s at the weekend. Boys’ High won this high scoring encounter 94-69.
From the start of the ball game the hosts were met with little resistance from the St Stithian’s defence as Boys’ High got off to an explosive start and were scoring at free will. It was no surprise when in the first eight minutes the Tshwane city school took a 12-1 lead and from that point they never looked back, with shooting guard Leslie Nteta(see picture) scoring seven points in that period.
Not knowing what had hit his team, the St Stithian’s coach called for a time-out to have some strong words with his boys, but the team talk seemed to not have had the desired effect on the Johannesburg school’s players as they were up a against Boys’ High team in a rampant mood.By the end of the first quarter it looked as if the visitors had thrown in the towel, such was the dominance of Boys’ High’s offensive play. Nteta, who finished the game with 20 points, lead Boys’ High in scoring with 14 points for the hosts to take a 30-8 lead at the end of the first period.
Boys’ High continued to tighten their grip on the game in the second quarter and they also widened the points margin between themselves and the visitors. Captain of the hosts Brian Tsabadi scored 10 points, while guard Lefatshe Shakung scored six points for Boys’ High to help add 22 points to their lead. St Stithian’s looked a bruised and battered side coming into the second period, but they managed to add 12 points to their lost cause. PBHS was in command of the game leading the match 52-24.
In the third quarter the game opened up more as Boys’ High slowed down their tempo, but remained in control of the game. The Boys’ High captain and guard scored seven points, to finish as his team’s top scorer with 21 points and centre Mpelegeng Ngwato came of the bench to score eight points in this period for the hosts to add another 22 points to the host third quarter total.
The visitors took advantage of Boys’ High’s laid back approach to game in the third quarter to also score their 22 points for a final score of 74-46 at the end of the third period. In the final quarter St Stithian’s outscored the hosts by 23 points to the 20 scored by the hosts, but those numbers didn’t matter, the real statistic that mattered was the one on the score board which read 94-69 as Boys’ got the third victory of the season.

As you can see this article was sent to me by Manyelisa so if you send me the article on the KES vs St Benedict team I will publish it. Filip said he was going to email it to me and I am still waiting.
I couldn’t make it to any games as I was at the SA team camp.
