St John’s College 1st team tournament 2009

Tournament rules

1. Date: 6/03/09 to 7/3/09

2. Venue(s): St Johns College & Wits University

3. Games Directors

The tournament Directors will be Mr.E.Kamangira (SJC) Mr. R.

Garura (SJC and a member of the referee’s body.

4. Participants:

St John’s College

Michealhouse

Bishops

St Benedict’s College

St Stithians College

Crawford

Rondebosch Boys High School

Pretoria Boys High School5. Eligibility

Only players that are currently enrolled in school.

6. Format

i.      The participants will be divided into 2 pools: Pool A and Pool B.

ii.      They will then play on a round robin basis within their respective pools.

iii.      A log will be kept of the pool. A win will be awarded 2 points, a loss 1 point and a forfeit 0 points. In case of a draw in the standings, the FIBA rules apply.

iv.      The 1st placed teams in each pool will play in the final.

v.      The 2nd placed teams in each pool will play for 3rd & 4th positions

vi.      The 3rd placed teams in each pool will play for the 5th & 6th position.

vii.      The 4th placed teams will play for the 7th and 8th positions.

7. Games

i.      Duration: 4 quarters of 10 minutes running clock

ii.      Breaks: End of quarter will be 1 minute. Half time will be 5 minutes.

iii.      Timeouts: Each team will be allowed to take one timeout per quarter. The clock will be stopped during a timeout.

iv.      In case of a tie, overtime will be 3 minutes running with no timeouts.

v.      Forfeit; A grace period of 5 minutes from schedules time, or, end of the previous game, will be observed. If the team is not present or is not ready to enable the referees to start the game, they will forfeit the game on a 20-0 score line. That team will also not get points on the log.

vi. Finals: The game will be played in quarters of 10 minutes running, with stop start in the 2nd quarter and the 4th quarter only. Teams will be allowed timeouts as per normal FIBA rules.

8. Kit

i.      Please communicate early with your opponents to avoid kit clashes in terms of colours.

ii.      In the event of a colour clash, the normal FIBA Rules apply.

9. Team Lists

i.      Please ensure that you submit your team lists of 15 players to St John’s College before commencement of the games.

ii. Please submit your team list of 12 players for that particular game, at least 20 minutes before your game.

iii. Please note you will only be allowed to use maximum 15 players for the duration of the tournament.

10. Referees

We expect in the spirit of the tournament and the game, not have any incidents of bad behaviour towards these vital members of our basketball fraternity.

We expect all participants to show utmost respect for the table officials and queries to be forwarded in a manner that is cognizant of gentlemanly conduct.

Breach of this will not be tolerated and further participation can and will be withdrawn.

11 Awards

There will be medals for winners and runners up only.

Each team will get tournament t-shirts, maximum 17.

a.         Please note we will be using 2 courts.

b.         Games need to run on time, please be punctual.

c.         Teams will have to warm up away from the courts. No warm up will be given on the playing court to ensure good time keeping.

d.         There will be a short meeting with coaches on Friday 6th of March at 2.45pm to have a run through on the tournament rules.
