ESPN and DARK CHILD take it to the streets

By on May 28, 2009 in FanZone

Saturday the 16th of May was that time of the year again, when ESPN together with Dark Child Production show case some of the “talent” that Mzansi celebrities have to offer outside their day jobs. This year they decided to take a short left into The University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus, this is where the Celebrity Basketball Extravaganza took place. The event was quite a huge success; not only did the organizers choose the perfect day to hold the event (The University’s Open Day) but they chose some of the best celebs to entertain the crowd.

The Gauteng Basketball League (GBL) All Stars where separated into “Internationals” playing against Locals. It was refreshing to see some new faces in both teams. Bram Blues Nathi Smelane had an amazing game that had him smiling from ear to ear… (Was the smile cause of the game or the ladies loving the young Swazi Katt???) . Yet again Mboshi was on point, winning the game for the International players.

The slam dunk competition was a bit different this year; it was like Darrel Armstrong taking a layup during the 1999 Slam Dunk competition. From Tsakane Ngobeni missing all dunk attempts to Denash Mitchell winning the whole thing; it was up to J.R to entertain the crowed before the celebs took their places on court. This year it was Channel O against Jozi Fm. Channel O came suited up with some talent while Jozi struggled with the little they had. Though Jozi put up a good fight, it wasn’t enough to take the title away from Channel O. By this time of the day, the venue was oozing with spectators, the biggest crowed to embrace the basketball courts in Joburg.

Hundreds if not thousands of people came through to enjoy themselves, and they definitely got more than their monies worth. Big up to Jozi Fm and Dark Child Production, yet another awesome event all for the love of basketball. Can’t wait for next year’s event….
