Update from Angola 22/09/2009:
South Africa played their first game yesterday, Thursday 22 May 2009, against Portugal. It was a tough game because the team had spend the day travelling from Luanda without food or water and had to play a few hours after landing. The ladies lost 95-36. Their next game is against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) today at 18h00 and the team is excited with the chance to test themselves.

Kim on the subject of Pumla, I heard that she had some school commitments to attend to.
Just in case you were wondering were they were going to from Luanda… The tournament is taking place in Lubango which is supposed to be an hour flight… Key word is supposed to be… The team is travelling with BSA board member Dumisani Tuka

Hi Kim,

something just hit me when i see the results. our ladies team seem to be averaging less than 50 points per game. this is based also on the Zim games for qualifiers. i believe that we have to make sure that we are a very good defensive team for us to win a couple of games as its going to be hard for us to keep most teams under 50 points a game.
thanks to Craig for giving us the updates. also big up to BSA for ensuring that our ladies team get as many compatitive games as possible before the African Champs. that is a sign that we are moving in the right direction slowly but surely.
Vic
any updates for the under 16 teams in Zim?
Hi Baller,
No update from the U16s as of yet but I will put something up as soon as I get it..
A bit more information regarding the Ladies game against the DRC:
They were 7 points down in the fourth quarter, then the war began with Phila out with a busted tooth, Requelh went out with a bleeding nose and Ellen “Poopsie” went out with a bad knock and the forwards started fouling out after that. The ladies showed great heart by staying in the battle until the end. But they couldn’t make up the deficit in the end.

Keep Balling gals, the road can only get better.I agree with the sentiments that BasketballSA should be applauded for afording the gals and opportunity to continuosly prepare for their upcoming African Champs.
Bigup
