BSA vice president on SAfm

By on August 30, 2009 in News

Just before our national team went over to Libya to represent the nation at the African Championship 2009, I was listening to SAfm when to my surprise I heard that they would have an insert on Basketball which would touch on the upcoming NBA-Basketball without borders Africa and the sport in South Africa in general… I decided to track down that particular interview and share it with the basketball public…

Speaking on SAfm Sport Special on Sunday 2 August 2009, Dr Ralethe, who is one of the BSA vice president, touched on a few topics during his interview…Some of the major things that were discussed in this interview was:

1.       NBA’s-BWB trip to our shores

2.       Making basketball a sport of choice in schools

3.       National team coach, Flosch Ngwenya’s trip to Budapest for a coaching clinic

4.       SA very own national convention apparently to be held after BWB

5.       Relationship with the rest of Africa

6.       How does 2010 World cup play a role as far as basketball is concerned.

I have included the two clips so feel free to download and listen in and voice your opinion on BSA’s plans.

I would like to thank SAfm for providing us with the sound clips… Look out for an interesting article tomorrow on the recent trip of the national team to Libya for a better idea of what happened there and how the team got treated on and off the court…

i find this funny to start with. the organisation goes to radio for feedback on whats happening in bball across the country when they have a website that is never updated, mybasketball website that the never want to share information with and then expect the bball public to be all merry.

now they are speaking about a very sensitive issue: coaching commission and i wonder how are they planning to start the structure. well, another mess is in the card. i will not be suprised to see that no coach is heading the coaches commission and how are they going to run the process.

isn’t that what they are supposed to make public with all the details long before convening those coaches. surely there is a lot of interest in that body and we need to know all the details. why make such private. anyway, there are already rumours doing the round on who will head the commission. if anything is to go by knowing BSA,i will believe the rumours.

lastly, why is the so called new executive claiming credit for teams that qualified for the african champs. honestly they haven’t done anything different from the so called previous executive to claim credit for anything in bball yet.

My biggest concern with South African is that we never take anything serious, we get excited over nothing. Bball used to be big when we played in the 90s, that was the platform we created. Now we are back at square zero. We cant be talking development now, we developed people and that was supposed to be sustained.

Each year, we talk of development, its almost like being reborn over and over again. We supposed to put a sustainable programme down, allow criticism. Good criticism. We already know what is missing and what they way forward is. Unless if we are just helping those who gonna chow our tax money and run away with out nothing, like always.

There are fu things that i need to understand as player, i here people taliking about development, we have BSA our mother body, we have GBA AND GBL ok, i don’t want to talk much about bsa, my question is who’s GBA and what is their job,i know GBL they running the league, we have a leagu that is taking care of the players by making sure players are fit, i know the league doesn’t have money to b more productive…. i don’t think we need GBA, ive never heard anything from them, who are they….we just need to put thinks on the table, eatleast we know bsa that they are there, they just need to get things rite with our help and also they just need not to hide things or lier about our basketball in this country, we just need to b respected, thats all we played na d represented this country….GBA please come out from the comfort zone and explain to us what is ur job and where is ur development office. good job to GBL.

we have hosted NBA players and BWB in this country for 4 or 5 years, we never gain anyhting from them, they just happy to b in this country..thats it, they don’t know anythin bout our basketball in this, we can’t even take them around to our basket ball offices just to c the wall of fame the development, our courts and more of our basketball history.

    Baba Sfiso

In other words YOU need to ensure that the structure is formed, YOU need to ensure that the executive is elected, YOU need to ensure that the exec meets, YOU need to make sure that the exec fulfils its mandate to YOU. YOU need to ensure that if the Exec fails YOU will replace them.
