Information provided by Peter Makhubela and edited by Victor Shakineza

In 2007 after getting frustrated at the lack of information about the game he loved in South Africa, Victor decided to start Mybasketball and he hasn't looked back. For close to 15 years, Victor has experienced the game as a player, a coach, a spectator and now from a media perspective. The whole purpose of Mybasketball is to keep the fans informed about the game and anything related to it; whether it is here in SA, Africa or Overseas. Victor has made some great friends along the way and rekindled some amazing friendships through the game.. Some of those friends have joined him on this crusade to make basketball better for everyone, and he looks forward to a South Africa where basketball gets the credit it deserves and the focus is on youth development and improving the coaches.

  1. Victor & Peter,

How about a bit more analysis? Let me try my hand at it. There are 3 more potentially exciting days for the GBL prior to the playoffs – 20th, 26th & 27th September. Hopefully these days are to be used as a taste of things to expect during the playoffs. Provided Egoli, VUT, UJ & Heat do not forfeit, the MP playoff teams have been decided. BUT on the 20th and 26th Egoli and VUT take each other on to decide the top seed going into the playoffs. The top 3 women’s playoff teams have been decided – VUT, UJ & Tuks. BUT again on the 20th is a HUGE game between Wits and the Scorpions. The winner will probably take the final playoff slot bar any other major upsets – eg Raptors beating VUT. I am absolutely keen to watch this game and hopefully all (officials, coaches, players and fans) are on top of their game. At the same time that the ladies are playing there is another important game – D1, VUT Alumni vs Tshwane Phantoms. Winner probably takes the final slot in D1 playoffs. I need to sit somewhere where I can catch Touch’s commentary both during and after the game. The other leagues are set or almost set for playoffs. On the 27th VUT vs UJ women – the pyschological warfare continues. “Courage above all things, is the first quality of a warrior” or “War is nothing more than the continuation of politics by other means”. Peter, Manny & Tshiamo keep the standings updated. Some of us basketball heads are paying attention! Oh happy days…

  2. Both Vaal and Egoli have no losses thus meaning that whoever wins between the two will come up tops. This being a once off semi finals it could be costly to teams like Eoli and Pretoria Heat. Why I say that is that we saw what happened to Alumni, they lost crucial games because their players had to work or had other committment issues. If everything goes according to play. Semis should be Pretoria Heat vs VUT and UJ vs Egoli.

I would put my money on UJ to win the one semi and unfortunatetly thrid 3rd and 4th would be Vaal and Egoli.
Lets just hope all the teams will be ready for a showdown and pls pls pls dont let this be another one of those “officials take the spotlight games” Im excited by the prospects of playing Vaal in the semis. Vaal is playing playing the best basketball of all the teams in the league so it would be a worthy opponent, well just hope that Thabang doesnt strangle the ref with his whistle.

  3. it looks like we heading to the most exciting finals for the 2009 league season. can someone please assist me here. there are women championships in madagascar i think in october. is that not going to affect the womens finals. by all probability most women team will be affected by that hence most of the players are in gauteng.
