2ND 28 – 15

1ST 49 – 59It was with some trepidation that the young Kearsney stayer’s first team stepped onto the court at Westville against the much older and more experienced Westville leaver’s team. The Kearsney team started well but some questionable coaching decisions by their coach during the first quarter saw them loose their momentum while Westville having home court advantage shot well from outside the ark and pounded the ball into their big guys inside to have a 12 point lead at the end of the first quarter. (12 -24)

The second quarter saw the Kearsney team settled down and they whittled away at the Westville lead. Westville continued to place pressure on the Kearsney team in the backcourt and Kearsney turned the ball over a significant number of times during the quarter which resulted in Westville building on their first quarter lead to go into half time up by  14 points,

The third quarter saw a much improved defensive display from the Kearsney team, who began applying pressure on the Westville team and making some crucial baskets but small lapses of concentration by the younger players saw Westville hang in weather the constant pressure. They maintain their lead and the quarter ended with Westville up by 23 points (54 – 31).

The fourth quarter saw Kearsney dominate their opponents and left the coach wondering where the team had been during the rest of the game. They dominated the offensive boards but were unable to finish under the basket and thus did not manage to close out the game. They did win the quarter 15 – 8, but it was not enough to win the game which was lost 49 -59. Credit must go to Westville who were able to absorb the pressure and hold on to the win.

In 2007 after getting frustrated at the lack of information about the game he loved in South Africa, Victor decided to start Mybasketball and he hasn't looked back. For close to 15 years, Victor has experienced the game as a player, a coach, a spectator and now from a media perspective. The whole purpose of Mybasketball is to keep the fans informed about the game and anything related to it; whether it is here in SA, Africa or Overseas. Victor has made some great friends along the way and rekindled some amazing friendships through the game.. Some of those friends have joined him on this crusade to make basketball better for everyone, and he looks forward to a South Africa where basketball gets the credit it deserves and the focus is on youth development and improving the coaches.
