Gauteng U16 trials

By on April 20, 2010 in High School

The Gauteng Basketball Association (GBA) is hosting trials for U16 girls and boys for Team GBA 2010. Team GBA is the Elite Basketball Programme for the Gauteng Province (GP).  Team GBA players are eligible for National selection via participation at inter-provincial tournaments (IPTs). GBA will be running U16 trials on 24 April 2010 at the University of Johannesburg, Bunting Road Campus. The selection of the U16 teams is in anticipation of scheduled national activities for the age group in 2010. GBA will also be using the trials to gauge the level of interest for a greater U16 basketball program throughout Gauteng.

Only South African citizens will be eligible for selection to the U16 Gauteng teams however, GBA will be providing opportunities for U16s of other nationalities to participate in GBA programs in the near future and thus encourages all U16 players to attend on the 24th.

Please note that only players born on or after 1 January 1994 are eligible for trials, in compliance with FIBA Africa specifications.

Trials will be held as follows:

Date: Saturday, 24 April 2010

Venue: University of Johannesburg (UJ) Outdoor Courts

Bunting Road, Auckland Park

Time: 8:00am to 12:00

All players are requested to bring a certified copy of their ID Book or Birth Certificate, a basketball, sweat towel, water bottle and any other refreshments they might need.

All queries about this event can be sent to Seann Rubinek, official Team GBA Program Coordinator for the 2010 U16 Teams, to basketballgp@gmail.com.

The Gauteng Basketball Association is the official provincial affiliate for Gauteng in the General Assembly of Basketball South Africa, a member of the South African Sports Confederation Olympic Committee (SASCOC).

we gauteng are currently national champions in this age group which we won by almost 30 pts in the final, in the mens section. what has been done to ensure a continuation from last years programme in regards to the coaches.

  2. Guru says:

U should be concerned with what if any tournaments(national or otherwise) are going to happen. This just sounds dubious to me. Trials for Elite Bball?? Who runs the camps, clinics, who is selecting etc. Muddy waters as usual. No transparency in all this.

  3. GBA Sec Gen says:

yeah, it's easy to sit on the sidelines and crit. come out to the trials and show us how to do it better. we've never turned a helping hand away and all we want to see is ballers balling. challenge is on the floor – U16 trials retake on 16 May 2010 at UJ. come through and see the process for yourself so you can judge the transparency on fact rather than fiction. what!
