Interesting that they are using the new FIBA court layout.

  2. Do you think the new court layout is a good thing? I do – perhaps its the NBA influence, but I think the three point line needed to be further out, and a bigger key gives more space inside for players to get in and score. It should make the game more fun to watch.

Well its the future of the game post 2012, so why not. Also, its a good scouting ground for professional leagues.

Interestingly, I was reading somewhere that the demise of the big man in the NBA is due to the larger key which makes posting up allot harder due to the distance of the low block to the basket. The introduction of the no charge line is a great addition.

Overall its a good thing. As long as they don't introduce penalties for defensive teams it will be great.

I actually think that this was done to force teams to put the ball on the floor and stop shooting the 3 pointer. If you look at the NBA, the forwards are finding it easier and easier to hit the long range shot which apparently takes away from the entertainment value of the game. But we shall see what it does to FIBA governed countries soon…

  6. ZekeO says:

Yeah, you right about the three point line. If anything it may create even more space on the floor as teams have to defend the long ball. A good shooter is a good shooter. At one of the venues where we practise they have the new lines in and you would be amazed at how quickly the better shooters have adapted.

I think thats also part of the idea. Make players respect the distance and cut out the speculators. Definitely good for the game going forward.

FIBA basketball is way more physical than the NBA and if FIBA ever waters it down to NBA level basketball is screwed.
