South Africa's basketball community

Pro Sport Consulting looking to bring basketball back with a ‘BANG’

By on September 2, 2010 in League, News

After months of deliberations, it was concluded by the directors that Pro Sport is willing to resume running basketball in Gauteng and possibly nationally, pending permits and talks with the higher powers. With the successful delivery of the FIFA 2010 World Cup, it is clear that sport in South Africa can contribute to the economy of this country and basketball is no exception. We believe that everyone in the world of basketball should find their playing field and make their involvement worthwhile for themselves for whatever reason they see fit. With that said, what may be on everyone’s mind is probably the question “what the great plan is” well, those in need of the answer will have to wait until formal agreements have been put in place and protocol is observed. There are, however, notable successes worth mentioning including the successful running of the Corporate Basketball League (CBL) as well as the Gauteng University Basketball League. It is great to see people taking basketball’s existence into their own hands and look forward to working together with them and all the basketball stakeholders.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the previous GBA interim committee for all their efforts in trying to get GBA back on its feet and at the same time, also extend our wishes to the current GBA chairman Gontse Moseneke and his team, the best of lucking on carrying the basketball struggle forward. As has been mentioned before, the success of basketball in SA is within in you and pointing fingers and complaining cannot be the way forward. We believe that with great leadership in the federations and the support from the stakeholders, basketball in SA can only grow, safe to say the process will not be perfect. Get involved or support, basketball’s future is in your hands.
In conclusion, we are very excited about possibilities in discussions around basketball and seeing that the year is about to end, we are looking to host a few Streetball tournaments before the next big thing in basketball this year i.e. The ESPN Celebrity Basketball Extravaganza happening on the 23rd October in Menlyn Shopping Center so be on the lookout. Pretoria, here we come!
