BNL 2014 – lights, camera, action but when?

By on May 11, 2014 in BNL

After getting a taste of semi professional basketball last year, the basketball community is itching to get the full meal in 2014 with the BNL proposed plan to take basketball to the communities of Kwazulu-Natal and Cape Town in addition to giving Gauteng another chance to improve on last years showing.

Supersport got us off our seat with the local action and while watching the current edition of the NBA playoff I was dreaming of one day being able to witness one of the countrie’s basketball arena filled to capacity with basketball fans from around Mzansi. Some of the local leagues have resumed and players are keeping in shape with tournaments but what are our administrators doing?

This is the perfect time to keep the basketball community interested with the NBA playoffs throwing up some amazing games but the silence is deafening.

Having attending one of the BNL trials for this season, players and team officials are waiting for that first whistle and some players have also said that due to the amateurish nature of this new competition, it will be difficult to commit to it fully; maybe the officials are deciding whether to commit fully or not to their promises. Let’s hope that it’s not a one season wonder.

We await for official confirmation of if and when the league will start, in the meantime we will continue to enjoy the NBA, the WCBA Winter league, The Bethusile basketball slam etc….

We have a huge problem here in KZN. We don’t have enough prep schools who play basketball so far Highbury prep is the only school that plays basketball but we don’t have any school to compete with. All we do is to prepare the boys for high school level. Most of our boys they go to Kearsney College, and Hilton College. But it will be nice to have a little bit of competition. And we would like to travel on tours. If you have any solution please help.
