Fiba Africa Senior Men Zone Six Qualifiers- South Africa vs Zimbabwe

The South African Men’s national team went into their opening match against Zimbabwe knowing very well that it wasn’t going to be easy. The game tipped off at 16h00 at the HC Devilliers Hall at the University of Pretoria.

South Africa got off to a good start against Zimbabwe in the first quarter finishing up 8 points, 21-13. After a very slow start in the first quarter Zimbabwe came back to win the second quarter by 2 points with a score of 16-14. Zimbabwe came back into the game in the 2nd period after stepping up their effort and intensity on defense. This resulted in 7 steals in the first half alone. Read the rest of this entry →

Fiba Africa Senior Women Zone Six Qualifiers- South Africa vs Mozambique

South Africa was dealt a very tough opening game as they opened against Mozambique on Sunday the 9th of January 2011 at the University of Pretoria. The Zone Six Qualifiers is a round robin format where the team with the most wins and best point difference will represent Zone 6 in the Fiba African Championship for Women to be held in Mali in 2011.

The other countries competing for the top spot in Zone 6 are Zambia and Zimbabwe. Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Malawi, and Namibia form part of zone 6 but will not be attending the tournament. Angola will not be playing because they have already qualified for the 2011 African Championships. Read the rest of this entry →
