This BSA board will be in office for the next four years. The Board was democratically elected in the Presence of the National Olympic and Sports Confederation of South Africa (SASCOC) and our national Government representatives.
The electors were all the nine Provincial Chairpersons and the Six Affiliated members of Basketball South Africa General Assembly.
The contact point for Basketball South Africa will be the President Mr Malesela Maleka and the National Administrator, Mr Tsepo Nyewe.
The BSA board members as elected on 26th October 2008 at Olympic House:
With all that basketball has gone through since the mid-90′s, the launch of the
GBL is one that is most anticipated by players and fans alike, and one that we
believe is the birth of the rebuilding of basketball not only in Gauteng, but
in the country and hopefully the sub-Saharan Africa as a whole. The situation
in Basketball cannot go any worsen in this country, however we believe in the
potential growth of the sport in SA and we have drawn more inspiration from our
recent experience of the NBA game in London which just showcased the spectacle
of the game of basketball and its commercial potential in SA.
A press release before a media launch is normally not recommended at the fear of
giving all the information away, nevertheless, here is a taste of what to look
out for at the launch. As known to the basketball community at large, Gauteng
Basketball Association and Pro Sport Consulting finally reached an agreeable
working arrangement. This has resulted in one huge league being formed which
looks to increase the competitiveness of the sport in Gauteng. This move is
supported by Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation whose
main purpose is to see Gauteng as The Home of Champions, and we have also
managed to, in principle, secure sponsorship that will help us run the GBL as
best as the assistance we have been promised would allow. We partnered with a
publicity company whose mandate is to invite as many media representatives as
possible to help spread the word about what is happening around basketball in
Gauteng.

Men
On the Men’s side, Australia won the gold medal, defeating Canada with a final score of 72-60. The win was significant for Australia considering that Canada led for much of the match. Australia had a balanced attack, with three players scoring 16 or more points and all but one of their players in the points. (Scoresheet)
Great Britain won the bronze over the USA, defeating them by a margin of 85-77 behind a fantastic 32 points by Terence Bywater. (Scoresheet)
Basketball Without Borders (BWB) returned to Johannesburg for the 6th consecutive year since 2003 and yet again the American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) had the pleasure of hosting this fine initiative. The five day camp ran from September 3-7 and more than 100 top (under 19) athletes from 23 countries around Africa were selected by FIBA, NBA and BSA to participate.
Each year the National Basketball Association (NBA) brings a few of their players to help out running the clinics and assist with charity work. The team was lead by the Legendary Congo Native ex Houston Rockets Center, Dikembe Muthombo Mukamba Jean Jaque Wamutombo, who we know as Dikembe Muthombo, and he was joined by Shareef Adbur-Rahim (Sacramento Kings), Caron Butler (Washington Wizards), Nick Collison (Oklahoma), Olympic Gold Medalist Jennifer Azzi and “our very own” Thabo Sefolosha of the Chicago Bulls; all NBA/WNBA players who made an appearance this year. Before heading for South Africa the players and team personel made a stop in Dakar to visit a non-profitable organisation, Sports for Education and Economic Development in Senegal (SEED), a basketball academy and a pediatric cancer unit at LeDantec Hospital to take part in a court dedication.
