WCBA 2010 finals fixtures

By Victor Shakineza WCBA Comments Off

So the weekend was jam packed with some local basketball in Cape Town. There was an upset on day one of the playoffs in the Mens division, with the Vets showing Montana Vikings that they still had enough in their tank by beating them in Game 1 on Friday night. You could say that there was a bit of complacency from the defending champs but they rectified it on sunday by taking Game 2. Now it’s on to Game 3 to decide on who will advance to meet the CPUT Cats who defeated Montana Vikings 2nd team. Continue reading »

WCBA: 2010 playoffs time

By Victor Shakineza WCBA Comments Off

It’s that time of the year again when the WCBA gets to the business end of the season. This year there is a bit more spice to the men’s semi final with the new team The Vets making a run for the title. Prediction: CPUT vs Montana Vikings final

In the ladies division, all eyes will be on the CPUT cats who have been the form team of the season with Future Stars trying to stake a claim in the mix to make it to the final. Prediction: CPUT vs Montana Vikings final Continue reading »

With the WCBA Playoffs a week away, CPUT finally got their act together to beat their much fancied and possible final opponents at the last round of the group stages held at UCT. By Victor Shakineza WCBA Comments Off

If you had the opportunity to watch UWC play over the last few years they would have given you hope that they were making progress in the right direction.  But this year, their team doesn’t look like they have the energy, passion or commitment to compete with the likes of Montana Vikings, who showed that they are in a class of their own.

In a game that was marred by countless mistakes from both teams, the team with the better quality and sound game plan came out on top. Vikings were never in danger of losing this contest. If this was a boxing match, UWC would have thrown in the towel in the first round. Continue reading »

After 2 gruelling days of basketball for all teams involved in the WCBA tournament, it all came down to another clash between the Vikings and the CATS in the Men’s final. These two teams have dominated the basketball landscape in Western province for the last few years and Montana Vikings look like they have stolen a step on their opponents in 2010. In the ladies final, it was home team UCT vs. CATS ladies. Having lost to UCT in the USSA qualifiers final, CATS wanted to set the record straight and they came out all guns blazing.
