False promises, lies, deceit, corruption, nepotism and lack of planning are hurting the game of basketball in South Africa and every year is like a vicious circle of inaction on the part of the people in charge… We watch as the years go by and another wave of hope is dashed. The problem is not that we don’t have the talent but that we don’t have the administrators in place to revive the sport. And those that are trying to revive it indep

endently are faced with countless hurdles from the mother body Basketball South Africa (BSA). As a result, we end up sending teams and coaches to international competitions to fail because we don’t equip them with the tools to succeed.

After the publication of the article yesterday, we received a response from BSA challenging most of these allegations. I have posted their response to the article in green.

After months of deliberations, it was concluded by the directors that Pro Sport is willing to resume running basketball in Gauteng and possibly nationally, pending permits and talks with the higher powers. With the successful delivery of the FIFA 2010 World Cup, it is clear that sport in South Africa can contribute to the economy of this country and basketball is no exception. We believe that everyone in the world of basketball should find their playing field and make their involvement worthwhile for themselves for whatever reason they see fit. Continue reading »

ESPN and DARK CHILD take it to the streets

By Nthabiseng Mushi Events Comments Off

Saturday the 16th of May was that time of the year again, when ESPN together with Dark Child Production show case some of the “talent” that Mzansi celebrities have to offer outside their day jobs. This year they decided to take a short left into The University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus, this is where the Celebrity Basketball Extravaganza took place. The event was quite a huge success; not only did the organizers choose the perfect day to hold the event (The University’s Open Day) but they chose some of the best celebs to entertain the crowd.
