SA’s basketball team at the Youth Olympic Games

YOG basketballSouth Africa is taking part in the men’s basketball at the Youth Olympic Games, with these being the first ever Games taking place.

South Africa was selected to participate along with 19 other countries, both developing and developed. With SA being drawn in Group D along with the Phillipines, Croatia, the US Virgin Islands and Spain (their senior team is current men’s FIBA world champions), it was never going to be easy.

Basketball a shining star at the Youth Olympic Games

Youth Olympic Games 2010The Youth Olympic Games are underway, and if reports are to be believed, the rollout of the new FIBA 33 format basketball tournament has been one of the highlights so far.

Team South Africa to face Spain and Croatia at Youth Olympic Games

As we recently noted, the first Youth Olympic Games (“YOG”) will be held in Singapore this year, and will have basketball as one of the sports. The tournament will use FIBA’s relatively new “FIBA 33″ format to introduce it to the global audience.

The draw for the tournament at the Games has now been held. South Africa was drawn in Group D along with Spain, Croatia, the Philippines and the US Virgin Islands (in the Boys grouping). The full draw is as follows:

Singapore’s Youth Olympic Games team – first look

Here’s a first look at the Singapore basketball team that’ll be representing at the Youth Olympic Games in August (I believe they’re the team in white).

Ain’t Youtube great – getting to scout the other teams from the other side of the world :)

The clip is just over 3 minutes long. There are a couple of good moves in there, and the big guy seems to have speed to complement his size. No idea how these guys compare to the teams from other countries though, but interesting nonetheless.
