Pretoria, Gauteng- 25/03/2011. Each year Institutions from all over South Africa battle it out to be crowned the USSA national champions of basketball. To prepare the Gauteng teams and better equip them for the competition that lies ahead, the Institutions have decided to come together to form a league that will serve as the qualifiers where 4 Gauteng teams will be sent to WITS, where the annual tournament will be held. GUBL 2010 finale
The curtain came down on the 2010 season of the inaugural Gauteng University Basketball League with VUT claiming the top price in the Men’s division and UJ taking it in the Ladies division.
The finals were held for the first time in Van der Bijl Park and in what proved to be a close affair in the Men’s division, the home team Vaal ended up with the W against a spirited Wits team. In the Ladies division, UJ beat their perennial foes Tuks to take the title.

The dates of the schedule will not be altered in any shape or form as we are pressed by the examinations that are beginning in the week starting on Sunday, October 17 and the GUB has a deadline to meet for the submission of the names of the qualified teams with USSA Basketball. Continue reading »

After months of deliberations, it was concluded by the directors that Pro Sport is willing to resume running basketball in Gauteng and possibly nationally, pending permits and talks with the higher powers. With the successful delivery of the FIFA 2010 World Cup, it is clear that sport in South Africa can contribute to the economy of this country and basketball is no exception. GUBL results and standings 2010
After spending the better part of the year practising, playing tournaments and watching other sports, like the 2010 Soccer World Cup etc.. Gauteng has finally decided to get some real competition going with the Gauteng University Basketball League (GUBL). Pitting most of the institution in the province against each other will serve them as good preparation for the USSA games later on this year. Continue reading »
