If you’ve ever wondered whether there’s truth in the statement that “you do not get because you do not ask”, just ask the Zambia Basketball Association.
In an article titled “FIBA helps bring hope to Zambia”, FIBA’s willingness to invest in Africa and contribute to the development of growth and basketball was highlighted.
It’s a big year for basketball!
Along with the FIBA Basketball World Championships to be held in August 2010, basketball will also be included as a sport in the first ever Youth Olympic Games taking place around the same time. And yes, South Africa will have a team there!
So a few key things:
First Youth Olympic Games
A lot has been said to the players, administrators, officials and coaches about the “governance” of basketball yet concrete evidence and information is hardly available to support what’s been said by various BSA stakeholders. The South African basketball mandate doesn’t know how the hierarchy of sport and governance in South Africa and the world in general operates; including the running of various sports federations.

Hop on the Basketball Roller coaster ride
I have no doubt in my mind that basketball is the most exciting sport in the whole world. Don’t take my word for it; ask the 350 million people that the international basketball federation (FIBA) estimates are playing basketball worldwide. They can’t all be wrong can they? This is a sport that was only recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1930. Since then the game has caught on in over 213 countries, 53 of which are in the motherland.
