PBHS vs. St Albans on Friday 6 June at 15h00 at St Albans
This was an amazing game; it was a final in itself with the crowd, the 3 lead changes in a matter of minutes and the overall emotions of the players at the end adding the spice to the event. When you watched the 1st half, St Albans were up by a basket on the back of some exciting drives from St Albans number 7 Khaya Thomo but Pretoria Boys high were always in it on the back of some hot shooting and fast breaks from Fhumalani Mobobo and Brian Tsabadi. After some missed opportunities from both teams, St Albans were up by 5 points after the 3rd quarter but after some resolute defending from the PBHS team, they managed to catch up the lead and build it up to a 6 point lead with 2 minutes left. In the end, the never-say-die attitude of the St Albans boys and their experience saw them edge out a narrow victory over their opponents and the home crowd went crazy. College remains unbeaten at home this year so until the 4th term when they play in the Johannesburg league they will keep that record. They moved to the finals on Saturday at DSG with a lot of confidence in the hope that they finish first this year.
My prediction: St Albans College – Actual winner: St Albans College Continue reading »

PHSG vs. DSG on Friday 6 June at 15h00 at DSG
Pictures by kgothatso
With the league winding down, PHSG had players injured or absent (Lara, Deidre, Jamela, Alexia) that would be the envy of other 1st teams… But with a final against their old foes on their mind, they did well to focus on the job at hand and win this game handsomely. But DSG put up an all mighty fight and their performances have steadily improved all year. They played a man on man game against PHSG and they must be commanded for their attitude throughout the game.
My prediction: PHSG – Actual winner: PHSG

PHSG vs. DSG on Friday 6 June at 15h00 at DSG
PHSG come into this game as favorites and will want justify that tag. After the disappointment of last year when they finished 3rd the PHSG team look like they can do the business this year under the leadership of Rosemary Leak and Amo Mpiriane. DSG haven’t beaten PHSG at this age group level in a while and I don’t expect miracles to happen in this game. DSG are making huge strides in Pretoria basketball this year but to win the U19 Girls section they might have to wait until 2009 or 2010.
My prediction: PHSG

PBHS vs. St Albans on Friday 6 June at 15h00 at St Albans
This is going to be a battle of giants, whether it is on a rugby field, cricket pitch or a basketball game, PBHS vs. St Albans is a big as they come when you talk of English boys’ rivalry in Pretoria. Unfortunately this meeting means that we will have 2 finals, one on Friday and another on Saturday. We could be in for an interesting match but with St Albans being at home, on a high and being undefeated in the league this year the pendulum is in their favor. They have played PBHS twice this year already and have managed to come out on top on both occasions. Will this be the 3rd time this year? Only Friday will tell us but it will be dramatic.
My prediction: St Albans College Continue reading »
Mandeville hosted yet another fantastic day of basketball when Egoli Magic played a friendly game against Southern Methodist University, a collage team from the States. The team was invited by Dragons Basketball Club to help run the Basketball Clinic for juniors as well as under 19s at Saint Benedicts’ High School in the East of Johannesburg; on Saturday the 31st of May. Dragons decided to give the boys an opportunity to play some of Mzanzi’s finest basketball players at Mandeville on Sunday. Continue reading »
