Today’s point doesn’t need much explaining but it’s certainly important enough to highlight here.

If you ask any coach what the characteristics of a successful team or player are, there are two words you’ll hear more often than not:

  • respect; and
  • discipline

These encompass a lot of different things, but one thing often overlooked is simply

being on time!

This takes discipline to do consistently, but is one of the most telling signs of respect – for your coach, your teammates and for yourself.

Don’t agree? How do you feel when a friend or teammate pitches up late? If it’s fine with you, then you’re one of the few.

So whether it be for a game, practice or just a friendly shoot around, be sure to discipline yourself enough to at least be on time (or preferably even a bit early).

Go ahead – not only will it build discipline within you (and thereby allow you to develop further as a player), it will set a standard for your team and allow you to focus on “more important” things.

It’s the little things that can make a BIG difference.
