Shoot hoops with SA’s best during kasi roadshow
Basketball – the sport of giants such as Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. This month, in a bid to grow local awareness of this exciting and challenging activity, ESPN, in association with Gauteng Basketball Association (GBA) and Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is launching the Kasi Basketball Tour.
The roadshow will visit various townships in the province to promote basketball as the sport of choice, and also to refurbish basketball courts in the area.
The ESPN Kasi Basketball Tour bounces into action at the Kagiso Sports Complex in Kagiso on Saturday, 30 August 2008, before moving to the Thokoza Stadium on 6 September, the George Thebe Stadium in Sharpeville on 13 September, the Temba Sports Centre on 20 September, and 3 Square in Alexandra on 4 October. On each Saturday, the action tips off at 9am and wraps up at 6pm.
Current and aspiring players (both male and female), referees, administrators and coaches are invited to attend the roadshow, where senior players from the men’s and ladies’ teams will be on hand to conduct basketball clinics and play exhibition games. Catch sizzling hip-hop performances, loads of sporting action as well giveaways of sneakers and other cool goodies on the day.
According to Cabby Magongwa, project manager “Not many people know that NBA 2 time Most Valuable Player (MVP) star player Steve Nash was born in Johannesburg, even though he is regarded as a Canadian and live in the US.
“We would like to encourage the youth to get involved in basketball so that we can start creating our own South African basketball stars, while at the same time providing a wholesome and constructive sporting activity that keeps kids motivated, disciplined, fit and off the streets.”

please help, i need to attend the kasi tour but have never been to kagiso.. how do i get there?? any map or directions??
Go to your nearest tourism and information centre. They should provide you with a free map.
this is a good iniatitive by all the parties involved. hopefully it will revive the sport in our townships. hopefully there will still be many more to come. lets all go out ans support the initiative.

like i mentioned on the other site ,i’m very delighted to know that theres actually a site that helps bring basketnallers together.i’m a 17year old teenager that has the love for basketball but my request is to seek help in finding a team here in gauteng ,i played for a team called S.A.B.B.A(South African Basket Ball Academy)but due to the fact that our coach had to leave the coutry the team broke down.then i gave up on basketball but there seems to be a great desire in my heart for basketball and i am really eagered to finding a basketball team that has a passion for building young teenagers like me,so if you can please try to connect me with some teams in joburg i will really appreciate it,you guys can write back to me using my email address..thank you
