Winelands Basketball League kicks off in 2011 with the support of the Delta Trust to try and revive basketball in a forgotten but beautiful part of the Western Cape. With kyle Ray working closely with Aggrey Ofula to generate, educate and elevate the game of basketball in the area we are bound to see growth.
The Delta Trust was established in 2007 to focus on development projects in the wider Franschhoek Valley and Cape Winelands District. The aim of the Trust is to contribute to nation building by protecting and stimulating our local culture and heritage in a socially inclusive way. Obviously, education plays an important role in this..

Try growing a brand new pair of legs, and then having to learn to walk all over again. Personally, having not played for over two months and having been forced to keep away from the courts all together (because temptations when around the courts are far too great), everything just seemed slow when getting back on the court. It was a bit of a struggle! I had to learn to put one foot in front of the other…before I could jump and make a decent lay up. Hopefully these games will encourage teams to improve on certain areas of their game in which they lack. Continue reading »

To say it’s hot in the Western Cape would be an understatement. With temperatures going up to 40 degrees in some areas, the region has experienced extreme temperatures and forced people to rush to the beaches in droves. While the majority were catching the waves, basketball players were making waves of their own in the Summer League hosted by Montana Vikings Basketball Club by trying to get in shape for the upcoming season.
With the League going into its third week, there is a mixture of fun and intensity with some games being close affairs and others blow outs but with the aim of the league to develop officials and aspiring players… So far the Montana Vikings Men 2 team is setting the pace with an unbeaten run… Continue reading »
