Have you ever thought you’ve understood a maths concept or knew how to conjugate a verb, then tried teaching someone else? It’s only when you’re trying to teach that you find out whether you really know what you’re talking about.

The importance of youth basketball

I know you know how important youth basketball is since you’ve grown up playing the game. But even someone who doesn’t play can work it out if they have half a brain.

By youth, I am referring both to the real youngsters who struggle to get the ball up into a regulation hoop, as well as teenagers who play the game on full-size courts.

U18 youth basketball – 2010 Albert Schweitzer tournament

The Albert Schweitzer tournament is a global tournament and is a celebration of global young basketball talent.

Started in 1958 in Mannheim, Germany, the tournament is usually held every two years and brings together the best youth (under 18) basketball teams from around the world.

Participation is said to be by invitation only, with many nations on a ‘waiting list’ hoping to get the chance to send their players in to battle.

The 25th Albert Schweitzer Tournament started on 3 April 2010 and included teams such as Germany, Brazil, Australia, Japan and the US (you can see a full list of teams here). Read the rest of this entry →
