The fist game of the season is usual not a great spectacle as the team is still finding its rhythm and the new players are finding their place on the team. Playing St Charles first up is always going to be difficult especially on their home court, the home crowd boosted their team and they were high on emotion, they took advantage of this and went scores nine unanswered points. The DHS team fell into the trap and played at the St Charles tempo. They panicked and turned the ball over a number of times and committed some silly fouls which led the St Charles making five free throws from the charity stripe. Captain Dumisani Gebashe took maters into his own hands and lifted his team by scoring DHS’s first 24 points and played some sound defense. The DHS crowed responded the challenge laid down by the St Charles crowd and helped the team rise from the ashes, our thanks go to Thabo Luthuli and Thabiso Ndlovu for there efforts. DHS was in front at the break and seemed as if the momentum of the game was swinging back to towards them. St Charles hang in there and played some bruising defense electing to foul the DHS players rather than let them score, this unsettled the DHS team and there was some panic for a while until again Dumisani Gebashe and Chris Fynn stepped up to take matter into their own hands. New comer Moonga Chipili fouled early in the fourth quarter and Michael Lawrenson stepped in and played well not making it easy for St Charles to score. There were times in the match where DHS played good defense and St Charles could find no way to the basket it is a good platform to build on for the rest of the season. The St Charles team playing the fouling game ran out of players towards the end of the fourth quarter as they had three men fouled out and two with four fouls. The St Charles no. 10 Nash hit five threes during the game and was their best player on offence; the DHS team will have to do a better job marking him in the return match. DHS will have had a wake up call from this game. DHS eventually came out on top but it was an unconvincing victory which left much room for improvement. Opponents: Kingsway Did not play due to rain

In 2007 after getting frustrated at the lack of information about the game he loved in South Africa, Victor decided to start Mybasketball and he hasn't looked back. For close to 15 years, Victor has experienced the game as a player, a coach, a spectator and now from a media perspective. The whole purpose of Mybasketball is to keep the fans informed about the game and anything related to it; whether it is here in SA, Africa or Overseas. Victor has made some great friends along the way and rekindled some amazing friendships through the game.. Some of those friends have joined him on this crusade to make basketball better for everyone, and he looks forward to a South Africa where basketball gets the credit it deserves and the focus is on youth development and improving the coaches.
