The Article Basketball South Africa Make your own conclusion has without a doubt stirred some real debate I’ve not see in a while.  Worst of all, I feel that there has been more frustrations from the people but with little ideas of how to move forward without hurting the game of basketball.  I thought of just responding to the article as one of the comments but I believe my response should be in a form of an article as this is a very critical issue to address. False promises, lies, deceit, corruption, nepotism and lack of planning are hurting the game of basketball in South Africa and every year is like a vicious circle of inaction on the part of the people in charge… We watch as the years go by and another wave of hope is dashed. The problem is not that we don’t have the talent but that we don’t have the administrators in place to revive the sport. And those that are trying to revive it indep

endently are faced with countless hurdles from the mother body Basketball South Africa (BSA). As a result, we end up sending teams and coaches to international competitions to fail because we don’t equip them with the tools to succeed.

After the publication of the article yesterday, we received a response from BSA challenging most of these allegations. I have posted their response to the article in green.

False dawn…

When the current BSA regime was “elected” into power it gave them an opportunity to distance themselves from the past and set the sport of basketball in South Africa on a new path to recovery. They had a chance to prepare the ground for the future of the game by setting up the structures and by having a plan of action to help the sport move forward but instead we are still at the same stage we were when they took power. Steve-Nash-Portraits

ESPN recently reported that Steve Nash is in South Africa for the World Cup, and is spreading the word about basketball while he’s here:

“Two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash (190-G-74, college: Santa Clara), who was born in Johannesburg, dropped by Discovery Park to play soccer with Patrick Vieira, formerly of the French national team, and Lucas Radebe, who used to play for the South Africa.

It wasn’t just a coincidence, though. Nash was joined by the Milwaukee Bucks’ Luc Mbah a Moute and Obinna Ekezie, the former Maryland star who spent a few years in the NBA before playing overseas, as part of the NBA’s campaign to extend its influence in Africa.

The Lakers and Celtics are making this an NBA Finals to be remembered, with it currently tied up at two games each.

But the other story rivalling this at the moment is the upcoming NBA free agent sweepstakes, starting 1 July 2010, when an incredible group of free agents including LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire will become available to other teams.

What does the NBA have in common with soccer’s FIFA World Cup taking place this year in South Africa?

Your guess is as good as ours, but SLAMOnline has ventured to find the link between the two – South Africa is certainly gonna be “where amazing happens”.

In their article, “Cup Comparisons”, they compare the NBA teams to the different countries taking part in the World Cup, noting the favourites for the tournament to be Brazil, Spain, England, Italy and Germany.

The Mogul’s Insight: Then there were 4

By Juice Ndlovu FanZone Comments Off

“ …. The road to victory is 1 that requires you to reinvent yourself throughout the journey.  Champions don’t prepare for sprints; they stay ready for marathons …” Mogul

Larry OBrien_001It is amazing how time flies; I cannot believe that we are already at the NBA’s conference Finals.  Few people would have imagined that some of the teams that are still in the running would actually still be active at this time.  I think that it especially comes as a shock, perhaps, that the Cleveland Cavaliers have again failed to reach the NBA finals.  This has brought the basketball world to stand and pay close attention to LeBron’s offseason, as many people would like to know if he will move or stay with his hometown Cavaliers.  More on this later.
