Scorpions Get Stung

April 7, 2008 in League, News

The LOP League has started again and Wits University is now the place to be for slamming weekend basketball; with players like ex US College Basketball player Thabo Litsebe, Quinton Denayssen and the old time favorite Joe Lo playing in the same team; Wits Alumni seemed unstoppable! On Sunday the 5th of April, Wits Alumni came head to head with Scorpions who featured basketball’s very own “Mike Tyson” Andile Hlope who almost injured Joe Lo’s wrist with his foul play; nonetheless it didn’t stop the Alumni team from dominating the floor.

Thabo Litsebe stood out by averaging 26 points, 6 steals, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Scorpion’s had no player to match the skills that this young man possessed on the court. At half time Wits Alumni was leading by 32 points and were still on point. Scorpions defence was not visible at all throughout the game; not even Scorpions number 11 Johanne‘s 12 points in that game could win it for them. After three entertaining quarters, Joe Lo ended the game off with a super dunk on Scorpion’s number 7, Sizwe Hlashwayo, as he got up quick to slam the rock hard into the basket, ending the game off with a whooping score of 44-97. Show casing such talent on our very own South African soil is just what we need for the game to grow in the country.
