Basketball fans can look forward to the AND1 team touring Maputo, Johannesburg and Durban courtesy of DStv. The AND1 Streetball Team have toured in 15 countries around the world, showcasing some of the best and never before seen basketball tricks and moves. You might have also caught the team in action via Playstation and Xbox games.
The AND 1 LIVE TOUR has been touring competitively since 2000. This tour is a guaranteed crowd pleasing and high energy event that has traveled to select cities around the United States and around the world. Says Colleen Goodman, Marketing Manager at DStv “We are proud to be associated with the AND1 Tour, this demonstrates our commitment and dedication to the sport of basketball and we are happy to be showcasing this unique and extraordinary playground-style basketball to the youth of Southern Africa. However more importantly is the associated message that stresses the importance of education and staying away from drugs, alcohol and gangs”.
The tour will also serve as a reminder to basketball fans that the NBA playoff season will be starting on ESPN, on DStv from May the 6th. . The defending champion’s The Los Angeles Lakers remain favourites to repeat as NBA finalists, but their path to a 17th title which would leave them tied with the Boston Celtics for the most titles in NBA history remains blocked by a tough group of Western Conference contenders led by the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder, the latter once again getting sharp play from last year’s scoring leader Kevin Durant.
The AND1 Live tour will tip off in Maputo on the 6th of May. Followed by Johannesburg on 8th of May at UJ Soweto Campus and concludes in Durban on the 14th of May at UKZN Durban Westville. Doors open at 1pm at all SA venues and tickets are R100.
