The Gauteng Basketball Association (GBA) is in crisis and an Interim GBA Committee has been appointed to map a way forward. A press conference will be convened on 6 December at Holy Family College, 40 Oxford Road Parktown, to discuss Gauteng’s non-participation in the upcoming IPT.

At a Special General Meeting convened on 28 November 2009 by the GBA executive, interested members of the basketball community passed a motion to dissolve the incumbent GBA executive as a result of numerous failed attempts to convene an AGM to elect a new committee, and growing discontent within the basketball community. An interim GBA committee was thus appointed to develop and institute a working model for GBA operations; develop a more extensive communications plan; convene an AGM in 2010 to elect a new GBA executive; and attend to the immediate issue of Gauteng’s participation in the upcoming interprovincial tournament (IPT) in KZN from 14 December 2009.

The interim GBA executive is constituted as follows: Nthato Selebi (Chairperson); Seann Rubinek (Vice-Chairperson); Danmore Chirinda (Treasurer); Kornelia Semmelink (General Secretary); Joseph Mangadi (Programme Manager); and Moeketsi Mosidi (Public Relations Officer).

The interim committee has decided that GBA would not participate in the upcoming IPTs due to the current crisis in the province. Members of the basketball community and the press are invited to pose questions to the interim committee on this matter at a press conference to be held at Holy Family College, 40 Oxford Road Parktown, on Sunday 6 December 2009, from 2pm to 3:30pm.

The Gauteng Basketball Association is the official provincial affiliate for Gauteng in the General Assembly of Basketball South Africa, a member of the South African Sports Confederation Olympic Committee (SASCOC).

In 2007 after getting frustrated at the lack of information about the game he loved in South Africa, Victor decided to start Mybasketball and he hasn't looked back. For close to 15 years, Victor has experienced the game as a player, a coach, a spectator and now from a media perspective. The whole purpose of Mybasketball is to keep the fans informed about the game and anything related to it; whether it is here in SA, Africa or Overseas. Victor has made some great friends along the way and rekindled some amazing friendships through the game.. Some of those friends have joined him on this crusade to make basketball better for everyone, and he looks forward to a South Africa where basketball gets the credit it deserves and the focus is on youth development and improving the coaches.
