With Craigs background(toughness),I think you are playing with the wrong TIGER.Only time will tell.100 -20.keep dreaming Joe.GP is tough but they have been beaten before and if you look at trends then you will see something is changing.I remember when EC beat Central Gauteng in the 3rd/4th place in 1998.No one expected that especially that the team we played had PBL ‘greats’.That was when we had given KZN a shock in the semis and flosh came in and brought them back.We had Craig Gilcrest on lockdown.

(SASSU)I remember KZN giving the star studded GP lineup a beating. Thanks to the late Archie as the ref but history will point out that GP lost.I remember the WC ladies feulled with 16V,beating GP during the Sassus.I can continue Joe but I want to say that YOUR DAY WILL COME!!!!!!!!!!

    Sooner rather than later

  2. wandile mgwenya says:

in my opinion i agree with joe..GP should just qualify for the finals and so should KZN..theres the tournament for you..but then again anything can happen but we all know it will come down to GP vs KZN..

  3. Joe says:

This year GP had a competetive league and a very strong Disrict league while other provinces remained idle. As for Craig he was and has always been my HERO and role model in terms of power play. However, with the emergence of Thabang and Tuka his days have finally come. I am looking forward to this matchup in the final as Wandile predicted.

  4. kim says:

Dont get me wrong,I dont say GP vs KZN wont happen. What I am saying is that its not as easy as you make it to be.I believe KZN can be upsets.Seriously.I believe that if you handle the boards against them then you have a BIG chance.

  5. Joe says:

On the other hand their front court has improved recently with their quickness very scary.

As for Craig I am looking forward to his battle with Thabang and Tuka to see if the younger generation can outforward the Greatest Forward player South Africa had ever had.

  6. theo chauke says:

I believe that people like Graig i coming into the with Psychological effects,I don’t think he will competitive the way he use to be.When it comes to him, psychology will play great effects to other teams and players when it comes to Graig.

As we know that bigger names tends to comes with those affects into the game, but when it comes to the game it is different ball game.

As for Gauteng to be in the Final without playing,it is not good for the game.As for EC,Mpumalanga,Limpopo,NC and FS, feel sorry for these teams.it will the signs of lack basketball development in these provinces and lack of competitive leagues.

Gauteng will be the champions, the pool of players they have. They can reserved their energy for the important games. They will probably win their games in the second quarter.

As for limpopo,Fumani needs great players around him to compliments his standard of playing .it will be same old story where he will be over played just like in the past. When you do that to the player, when he goes to important games he has no competitiveness because of tiredness he will endure.

  7. wandile mgwenya says:

ey Tuka is just tooo much wow!!! but i say that next year look out for Sakhile AKA Sak from st benedicts college..he doesn’t miss!!!! when he enters varsity next year he will play for GP senior team I’m sure because he has played for GP at Engen under18 level already..

  8. theo chauke says:

Wandile,It is great to hear that they will be new players coming up.It is the same when Deris Miles came from high school to the NBA,everybody expected greatness. He is yet to show the greatness he had from high school.Playing in GBA is competitive,

we will have to see this young lad what he has?do you know he averages scores,if so can you publish it,so that we can comment further about his previous stats.

  9. wandile mgwenya says:

lol na but all i know is that he played first team at st benedicts since grade9!!!!
i don’t think the GBA will be anything big for him..he will be a star there in my opinion..he doesn’t miss!!!

look at who was the MVP at the DHS festival this year…he was!!!

  10. Joe says:

I’m sorry Wandile but some of us have known Sak for years and he has not developed to the level that we expected of him. Check his history in the Engen U18 and you will notice that he has failed to dominate as expected, even at Gauteng level.

  11. wandile mgwenya says:

ok well joe in my opinion i think he will dominate as he has improved … ha demolished DHS both at the st Johns tournament and the DHS festival…in my opinion he will be a star

  12. kim says:

    Theo
Why do you feel sorry for the EC,Limpopo,FS etc.My understanding is 4 teams go to semis. The Big 4 will obviously avoid each other. For me the Big teams have more to lose that the rest of the teams.Teams like FS should be trying to beat one of the BIG teams to make it to the semis. That wud be an upset. So all FS would need to do is beat Limpopo and chances are that they make semi.Thats if they beat NW and Northern Cape.

For me that pool will be exciting.NW vs FS will be tense cos both teams have players that played in the GBL.On the one side you have Lucky and Angola whilst FS will be having Vusi and Isaac as possible competition. One thing I like about March madness is the possibility of ‘cinderella’ teams making it to the later rounds.I have a funny feeling that only 3 of the Big 4 will make semis. The only question is which BIG team wont make the cut.My money is on Limpopo not to make it.Wisani and Fumani will be key for Limpopo but dont know whether their bench is up to the fight.

2 weeks and counting and all will be revielled in ALICE when seniors start.

Underdogs are who I am supporting!!!

    Lets go FS

  13. kim says:

    Joe
How did the GP mega trials go over the weekend???

  14. Maboko says:

Im from limpopo,my team was never called for selections, but already we have a team .how strong is the team i wish i could attest? only them they know.the team we have was selected by three persons and players were informed by sms’s.there was never selections but as usually there is a team.
these is the kind of behaviour or actions that hinders our basketball in limpopo and in the country. i guess we all know the culprits of this.lorenzo has forecasted some time back about this , histoty is reapiting itself. these should stop and im going to be one of the people to make sure that these monopolies stop. we need to move forward.
some of the players selected via these sms’s is not known if whether they play or not where ever they are.

i urge u fellows players and lovers of this game to depate these issues ur voice is enormous in making an impact.
i also urge the leadership of limpopo basketball to refrain from these wrong doings,it must stop………………………………………..

  15. kim says:

I hope that Free State and/or North West beats Limpopo so that they(limpopo) dont make Semis cos then Limpopo will have to realise that this is not the way to go.Even GP held trials,I still didnt agree with Gauteng having trials cos they had 2 leagues to view their players.Limpopo might have selected players that have stopped playing or players who were inactive this year.

The problem is that the powers that be can always say that they have a winning formula hence they are making semis.Immediately they lose, then you have even a BIGGER case in what you are fighting.

  16. Theo Chauke says:

Maboko,As i predicted that a team will be selected telephonicaly,It as happened<when we talked,we told by people who claim to know basketball that is politics,It makes me sick that the management of limpopo are doing this,I believe limpopo basketball is run by Morons, who does not have clue what governing basketball is.

People like Mashaba and his cronies are killing basketball,It is months ago that Mashaba is electing as member of BSA,To allow this kinds of things to happen,it shows the lack of leadership in his side.I believe is the one who had the final say in this things.I believe that mature players will not allow to be selected over the phones, but this mature players have not say any.

Basketball is not just winning in the court only.

i was watching woman tournament in Orlando,it was great tournament. The standard of basketball in senior woman tournament was great to watch.Vaal had great tournament as their become the champion, and the Jewel of Zimbabwe come second. It was unfortunate that Vaal and Jewel didn’t play against each other, because the jewel arrived on the 4th instaed of the 3rd.If they could have played, believe that i would have been the game of the tournament. It was disappointing for UJ and TUKS as their came third and fourth respectively.Tuks not to win even a game, was so suprisingly with their standards.

The tournament overall was excellent,Knowing the teams got trophies and cash prize money.Always the All stars and MVP went home with cash in their pocket it shows where basketball is going somewhere.

Also the under 18 went home with cash prizes and trophy,it is great way to motivate this kids to play Bball.

  17. Theo Chauke says:

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS

My wish for all of you, as we move into the holiday season–the season of Peace–that peace,
love, tolerance and prosperity (in the face of the ugliness showing itself in the world) will be abundant in your lives.

Too, I hope that your basketball seasons are off to a good start and that what you teach to your players is more about learning to play the game well than about having to win. “You have no control over how good the other team is or how well they they have prepared. You do have control over how well you have prepared.” If you have taught your players well and they are doing what you have taught them to do, you are winning, regardless of the score.

  18. Theo Chauke says:

Kim,it is not about whether limpopo win or not.It is about seeing basketball changing the direction of doing things right.

I wish i can say that i wish them to lose, but i can’t because of the respect had for Fumani,He has being my team for years and believe that he deceive to win.It is the only player i respect in that team.

I know that he will be in the All stars player if not MVP.The rest of the squad i am sorry if i don’t have confidence in you.

Last time i said i felt sorry for NW and other province,As for NW they have suprise packages of players. They have included those players who didn’t make it in Gauteng trials. As for names, the puzzle will reveal it self in the tournament.

  19. GRAIG says:

Who is in the GP spuad? Reason why im asking is, the Egoli Magic was in Angola during the weekend of the trials. The Egoli team had players like Quintin, Thabang, Neo ,Toka and Lesego. So who actually made the team?

  20. Maboko says:

it is evivident this culture of monopoly and selfisness is rooted in our beloved sport. one was excited when the new basketball board was elected with anticipation that this kind of behavoiurs will be rooted out.

i think the national commitee should make sure that provinces submit the report of the selections for each and every squad participating in the national tournament.get how many teams participated in the tournamet on which day was it.and all should be submiited in writting. Because should they not do so, it will mean that they themselfs do support and promoted such actions and behaviour .when i say such actions i mean ,favoritism ,unfairness, selecting players without constituting a selection tournament .

what is sad is that some of these culprits form part of the new NEC. We should not keep quite we sholud continue talking about them. i wonder what does willie say about this?

  21. Setlogelo says:

    Craig

Let me put this straight, first. I am not a player or interested in the technical aspects of the game.

I have noticed how GBA is battling with its soul. It projects an image of a kid who is struggling to find their identity.

GBA kicked their own ass by calling the trials. That decision was tantamount to the production line department of BMW asking the people from a bicycle shop to verify their quality.

When you have a league such as the LOP you do not need trials.

Why do you need trials? Was it a publicity stunt? It is more remarkable to announce a squad at the end of the league. They could have even announced the team at the media launch.

The trials was not a good move. It looked as if LOP and GBL did not produce quality in the past year.

  22. kim says:

    Theo
I hear you and agree with.If you read my statement,I say,I wish Limpopo loses because by them winning they think they are working with the best practises when actually they are not….keep reading it.I for one am also disappointed with what NW seems to be doing.Imagine I went and got all the other “rejects” from the GBL and LOP.What would that be doing for the development of basketball. It thus raises many questions to say why doesnt GBA force players outside their borders to go and play for their provinces.

With the coverage that GBL and LOP got, provincial coaches SHOULD atleast know how their players are doing.I for one got calls from people from JHB wanting to play for FS and I refused and urged them to go to the UJ/Wembley trials cos it was their right. These players performed well during the season but now you punish other kids from NW by picking NW players.I for one phoned FS players.I indicated that I would love for them to play for the province and they answered in the manner they saw fit. That doesnt mean I need to then phone Neo or Fumani and say please come play for us.

2 wrongs dont make a right.Ayanda playing for GP last seniors was wrong.Lesego playing for GP is wrong but I know that people wont agree with me.Its like the same as taking a coach who hasnt coached the whole year and then making him a national team coach or provincial coach, wrong.

  23. kim says:

Ohh by the way Theo, the NW team wont be a surprise cos I know who will be playing for them including the Angola,Thuso,Lucky and brother,Podolski and a secret weapon that might backfire.Knowing them and beating them are 2 different things. So dont think that I am saying they wont do well, but all I am saying its people who we know that havent made GP and the peeps who are at UJ that are from NW.That plus additional of OLD school good players.

Cant wait to see Clive play once again. If NW feels this is the best for them then so be it.

  24. theo chauke says:

Players must be allowed to choose which province they want to represent,But must not cross borders to weak province if their didn’t make it in other provinces.

I am saying this because limpopo as few player in Cape Town who didn’t make it into a team because of the trials not being called.Few of this guys didn’t even bother attending trials in western cape in hoping that they will be trials in limpopo.

I have suggested to them to start playing ball for western cape instead for this rubbish limpopo province.

Willie is coach but they way he support the issue of selectinn players over the phone,it makes me whether where is got the skill of coaching,He should know best. The way he has being quite it doesn’t suprise me,he is one of the cronies of Mashaba regime,He comes and ask people if they are ready for challenge.

If he(wiliie) can answer these Question, how do you go back to the community and do developments when you still have people who can’t do simple things.

  25. theo chauke says:

Maboko,do you think Dr Ralete will tell Mashaba what to do,these people are buddies man,Dr Ralete and mashaba are both from limpopo.do you think Dr himself doesn’t know what’s happening in these provinces,I doubt fellow soldier.

Until the LPA call a meeting so that people can submit their complains we won’t go forward. It is better to lead by a Guide Dog than people like mashaba,Guide Dog is trained before it can guide a blind man. These people need to be taken for leadership and managerial positions.

I always whether why Coaches in England are called Managers not coaches.I believe that you need to have managerial skills to coach People and lead people,How do you coach a player who earn millions a week. You can’t not coach them, you manager them.

BSA need to introduce Level 1 coaching course for all the people who wants to be basketball coaches. These course must international recognise courses. If they cannot do that people who need to be coaches must starting doing these to benefit their profiles themselves. They can do online basketball coach to enhance the growth of coaching skill. These this days we have people who coach basketball without having a clue about basketball.
